The ATP VES i have had for about 7 months was finally installed this weekend, and i tell you what this thing gives you a kick in the pants. It sounds pretty wicked going from quiet to a screaming exhaust note within a second. The car pulls much harder at higher rpm's. I think my stock rear section was choking the exhaust flow substantially. It starts opening around 3 psi and is fully open at 5 psi. I only had to cutt a little section off the heat sheild to get it to fitt and even when at full throttle it isn't that loud. Kinda makes me wonder if it is opening all the way

Its no lower than my headers. I have gone over some roads which usually cause me some trouble and it hasn't scraped yet.

thats just the vaccum line for the actuator on the cuttout. I think it will be fine, but if it does melt i will just re-do it

Cut-n-Paste....HAHA...I think the time limit has expired and you've added a few mods since then, ie headers/cutout/etc...

Bought house...changing priorities a bit, but the Max will get some new toys once I get my new 3-car garage situated.

Yes, the wifey is ALWAYS mad when boxes show up.

So your saying your not as confident in your previous conclusion of me not hitting 350whp?

After this LONG, I barely remember what you've done to your car...LOL!

Without tuning, I'd bet you're losing 20+whp and with the automagic even more, so I doubt you have 350whp comparing what you have to what StephenMax has. Just a guess though and I hope you do have 350+whp.

I just can't believe after all the money/time/parts/hassle you've thrown at that beast, you haven't dyno'd to know if your tuning is producing what you've paid for.

No dyno, no cares.

The car has been tuned to a 11.7 AFR. The tunning was done on the street by a local tunning shop.

Yeah, TS does "street tuning", however on DynoJet dynos, the AFR and power aren't ideal.

Get a DynoJet dyno(ON A DISK!!), then we'll try and figure out how your setup is performing.

Chris, is the piping actually 2.5" that the 3" cutout is on? I know you can order that piece in different sized diameters. And that def looks low. I'm ordering mine next week along with a 3" y pipe + 3" test pipe with a reducer back to the rest of the 2.5", followed by some resonators and stock muffler or something quieter than the SP1 system. Think that would work? Just gonna bring the test pipe in to get this put in the center of it or swing by and have them do some custom piping for that section. How much was install?

You had a dyno before this? I'm gonna be too lazy probably to get a before and after dyno. Plus I can't find any local dyno places that aren't super expensive or inaccurate.

Chris,

Looking at your picks, you sure you want to route the hose right where the exhaust dumps?

Having a cut out is sweet. Mine is not electric, but when I have my 3" cut out open the car is a complete different animal. Spool is much, much faster and top end is unreal. When my cut out is open the spooling is very audible, sounds like a jet plane.

Mike,

Is your cutout located on your downpipe before going under the tranny?

Do you have any pics?

Chris cut out is opened by vacuum like a boost controller. It sees boost and pressure opens it right up.

why do you keep buying performance mods, you dont even drive your car hard... ever. i'm also willing to bet you won't record a video of it for the nice people here on the org because you won't be willing to drive your car hard in the first place for a video... :P

what up jay!

I talked to the tech at ATP and they said the VES is fully open at 5 psi since it has a 5psi spring in the actuator. My car doesn't start changing tone until about 3k rpm.

Mike
Yes the top end is nuts when this thing opens up. This is probably the most noticable mod i have done w/ the SC setup.

Alex
There wasn't to many options when routing that vacc line. When looking at it in person you can see it is right at the rim of cuttout. If it melts then i will have to look into another solution

yea it is 2.5". It looks so low because my car is so freaking low. Lets put it this way, my car is so low that i have scraped my hotshot headers while just normally driving.

OOO i forgot to mention, that pic was taken on a weird spot on my drive way where the is a incline then it flattens out at the top. It makes the car look closer to the ground than it is

Yes, that is exactly where I have it. I kinda wish it were electric, but i can take it off without having to jack the car and it literally only takes about 30 sec. Just two bolts. So it is basically the turbo outlet, then about 18" of 3" piping, then the 3" cut out.

Why in the hell would ANYONE go get a full 3" exhaust when this exists and its much cheaper? I just never really understood that. And yes, please dyno, this should be great .

This type of cut out is much better than full 3" exhaust. I have a QTP electric cut out that is part of the down pipe. My main exhaust actually tees off that for flow reasons, I put the cut out on the main pipe and the exhaust teed off of that. MY AEM can control opening and closing based on rpm and TPS (and boost if I wanted to). I never measured performance increase since my goal was to get my exhaust quiet for cruising, I never did like the sound of my 3" exhaust even with different glasspacks, mufflers and silencers. I am going to downsize my exhaust from 3" to 2.5" cause there are some funky resonances still going on.

I forgot to mention that this thing can be controlled with a boost controller. I am going to be installing mine this weekend so i can shut it off when cruising around. Right now i am pretty addicted to it and have been driving my car pretty hard as a result. I hope that tranny holds

BTW hopefully i will be making videos tonight for you guys
