I've always wanted to see a Maxima setup like this, anyone done this yet? Seems like an obvious solution once you look at it.

Why can't I see in the links? Each one is the same thing. Just an engine shot of a VQ35.

thats pretty much what the 3rd gen guys have at least been doing for a while now(I know Mtcookson) had a very close setup to that with the two manifolds meeting right over the transmission and the turbo mounted there as well

Yeah, I did a setup like that. Works pretty well but I want to redo my front manifold and crossover so that it could flow even better. What's nice about it is the setup makes it relatively easy to do an equal length setup, which should allow for quicker spooling than a regular "constant pressure" setup. I still haven't decided if I'm going to finish that design yet or not though.

Nice! Happen to have any more pics of the manifolds? I'm thinking of the same setup but facing forward on my car.

Excellent work man, I don't know how I've missed your project for so long! What type of bends did you use for your exhaust manifolds, thin wall or the thick wall "weld els"?

What motor is that? Looks like a really neatly designed package. You aren't contemplating doing this are you Fred? I always thought you wanted to keep the stock firewall intact.

Do you guys have your motors solid mounted to have the header directly supported to the chassis?

I believe it was a SAAB motor if I remember correctly. I'm thinking about doing it but flipped to the front of the motor for a front mount turbo.

Fred,

I picked up the book today just for your article. Read thru half. Congradulations on the publication.

Ah yes the new Saab. I remember reading about those. I liked the 4 bangers a lot better. This new motor makes the same power stock as the old 2.4l 4. Saab has been doing some interesting stuff lately. I've always said if they made a RWD model they'd easily be able to compete with mid level Benz and Bimmers. The Aero model 9-5's have that RWD look too.

Anyway, I was also thinking of doing something similar. Only problem on the VQ is that the alternator is right were the pass side exhaust mani should route. I was thinking a center mounted turbo would be great for spool but fitting a bit unit between the timing chain and the rad could be challenging once piping is accounted for.
