Experiences With External Fuel Pumps?
Experiences With External Fuel Pumps?
I know fuel cells are not very common in Maximas so I'm not really expecting too much of this. I'm just hoping there are people out there with experience in the areas of sumped fuel cells and external fuel pumps.
For some reason my intank pumps are losing pressure rather rapidly. I can't figure out if its due to the way I'm clamping them and perhaps distorting the rotating assembly or if its because they aren't getting full voltage. A shot of the maxima pump clamped on. Don't worry I do have a clamp on the barb of the pump(Just not in this pic).

Judging from the pic, does anyone think the pump could be damaged by being firmly but not overly tightly clamped to that threaded rod?
First I had a stock 240 pump in the stock tank. Suprisingly it was up to the task of supplying fuel for the larger VQ. Then I built my fuel cell and used a stock Maxima pump. It lasted for about two hours of driving and then started dropping fuel pressure. Vid of that here. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v7...t=MOV01372.flv Then I swapped in the Walbro 255 that I had. Worked exellently for about half an hour. Base FP was in the mid 40's. Car pulled well. Etc... Then it started dropping off again. Now base FP is sometimes as low as 36psi and driving FP drops like a rock to 20'ish under WOT and you can hear it lean out real bad. I checked all vaccum. I also swapped out the right fuel rail with a spare to check and make sure it wasn't the FPR somehow screwing it up. Same results. So if anyone has any insight that'd be great.
Anyway, I've decided to do what many deem the "correct" route with an external pump. My tank is all ready to go. I'd just like some recomendations as far as brand and model if anyone has experience.
BTW: Mods if nothing productive comes of this thread I'd like to ask later to have it deleted.
