New Gates racing micro-v-belt arrived

I just received a couple of the New Gates racing micro-v-belts.

They are blue and have a teflon like feel. The model # is K060705RB.

The box claims 3 X heat resistance, Three X performance life, 3 X load carrying durability, 3 X belt tensile endurance, and 2 X belt tooth integrity.

If these facts are true, combine this with matt's new SC steel mounting plates and you should have a system that works properly for a long time!

So when are you planning to put that in?
Blue should look cool on the S/C.
I wonder if there is a price difference between this belt and the regular belt.

Anyhow, I just picked up the regular Gates K060705 belt on Tues. Got matty's plate delivered yesterday and I'm ready to reinstall!

If these facts are true,.........
Consider-
1. 3X and 2X compared to what?? I'm reminded of the joke,
Question- "How's your wife?"
Answer- "That depends: compared to whose!"
Everything's relative. Would be nice if that was 3 and 2 times the Gatorback; and
2. These aren't "facts," only claims. Facts are things that have proven to be true. Jury's out.
BTW, i30krab, where are they available, and how does the price compare to, say, Gatorback?

I don't know availability or price, they sent me a few belts from R & D.

I'm not sure when I'll install them. Right now everything is running fine.

All I can say is if you're going to put on a new SC belt and your running a 3.25 to 3.125 pulley, this belt will replace the old gates- K060705
.As far as how good the new tuner belt is, if the material is as strong as kevlar it has to be stronger than the gatorback and older gate belts!

"I have one of these belts in our Gates Racing products line, K060705RB. The Gates Racing belts are made of a high performing construction and have aramid fibers in the belt. Aramid is a Kevlar equivalent. I do not have the other two belts but could possibly add them to the line, particularly the KO60710." which is for the 3.60 to 3.33 pulleys

But not 3 times the grip???

I didn't know heat obsorption was a problem. Performance life? Short of a belt being completely shreaded, I don't think anyone has actually worn out a belt, have they? Tensile endurance - this could help those with shreading problems. Tooth integrity? Does this mean better grip or just longer teeth life?

These are all very good questions but look I'm no chemist or engineer and further more, who gives a rats a$$. If you need a new belt just use the strongest one available!! Ain't no brain surgery here.

Well, if Gates claims that they're the strongest, who are we to question? They must be! And I know someone with a really cheap bridge across the East River he's looking to sell. Really!!
Face it, both Gates and Goodyear are quality brands. Believe the hype if you want, but Just Do It.

Well seeing I need to have the SC taken down I got the belt...
FYI you can look it up under GATES application for 2003-2005 Lancer with 2.0 Turbo...

You didn't seriously think they would make it for the few SC Maximas out there, right

Oh yeah, "list price" is $92...

Update:

Well the belt is in and it seems to be working well. Now the blue belt matches all my blue charged tube couplers... hehe.

One thing to note is that the belt is noticeably THICKER than the standard belt so those who didn't grind much of the V2 bracket will need to recheck the clearance. I had like 3/16"...

It just looks like a normal belt but blue on the engine so I didn't bother taking pictures... You can get the belt at a discount for about $60.... if it saves you the trouble of changing a belt (not the most convenient thing to do) less often, all the better. I would just change the 2 pulley bearings every year of so... I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Another important FYI I forgot:

The standard way of tensioning the belts (90 degree deflection) doesn't work since the belt is thicker and doesn't really "stretch"... I tried it and it was too tight and the new bearings were wailing so I had to loosen it up some after our initial start up.

I've only run regular Gates and Goodyear Gatorback belt... never had problems with those either aside from normal wear and cracking from the heat and use... never had one break.

I know the Dayco Polycogs are popular in supercharged NMRA Renegade cars. They are only allowed an 8-rib setup with a max 8" dia. crank pulley.
