The manual version of this mod gives you a three-position toggle switch that puts you into first gear, second gear, or third gear, controlled by you. There is no other choice when the Shift_Fast is engaged. Move the switch - shift a gear. Bang.
You can switch between normal operation and the Shift_Fast with a DPDT switch - at rest only, please. When engaged, you have to shift the transmission with the switch, so you have to be aware of RPMs. It shifts very quickly and very hard. I like it.
There were earlier threads showing the wiring diagrams, wiring locations, and switch installation photos. Anyone would need to search for "shift_fast". Google for "" shift_fast site=maxima.org "" , or better yet, if you haven't, donate to the *.org so you can search... Something should show up.

I'm just not savvy on following those weird diagrams and stuff. Oh well, research research research. Streetz, I talk to you enough, so I'll be pestering you about it soon enough

Man, that's cutting it close on shift RPMs - how did that feel when it shifted? Were you on a drag strip or scaring kiddies on the street?
I'm going to KCIR tomorrow for a noon-to-4PM session - weather is predicted for 60's , sunny, tailwind. And, some more 150-shot passes are planned, with a full 15 lb and 10 lb bottle in the truck. I think I'll set the Shift_Fast for 6400 RPMs. I also put in a fresh set of 2-step-colder shaved-ground plugs and more race fuel - I found one plug with a cracked insulator - not bad, but I don't like to see this. At least all the ground straps looked normal - short, but normal. I've leaving the ignition voltage booster set at 16 volts, and set gaps to .035, up from .030. We shall see.

There were some good photos that "street" and I posted, and Jime had the original wiring diagram for the manual switch version. I'll have to rummage around.
Are youse guys just interested in the "automatic shifting of the manual shifter of the automatic tranny", with the MSD switch (Shift_Fast), or are you wanting to do the manual switch version (shift_fast) ? Never mind, I'll try to gather details of both - I built both, so that's possible. Huummmmm..... I'll work on it.
This sounds like another thread - maybe a sticky if enough folk are interested. Great - another project....

I agree, a sticky needs made of a thread about it. Possibly even a thread about automatic transmission upgrades/tweaks in general. Maybe I can add a section about it to go on my site alongside the 00VI section?
This is a tremendously interesting thread. To all the Shift_fast guys, all I can say is nice job
I too want to turn my autotragic into an automagic, can someone send me schematics with a bit of directions on how to do this please? email is skyhighlp@yahoo.com, thank you!

Here is the simplest drawing I can do of the manual shift-fast mod. My auto one is hooked up to my Emanage Ultimate and takes a little longer to draw because of the components.
However the manual mod works great and even better if you have a shift light and better yet if your rev limiter is raised to 7k or so.
Its very simple really with only 2 logic lines controlling the shifts, pins 6 and 7 of the TCU. Just make sure you stay in 1st gear on the shift lever and don't shift down using the switch especially if you are reving in 2nd or 3rd because it will shift down immediately and its a heck of a shock to the drive train.
The blue lines are for normal operation, the orange for the shift-fast mod. Green lines are original wires that are cut going from TCU to Transmission.

What I'm interested in seeing are pictures of the actual controls. It's hard for me to convert these drawings into physical wires and switches in my head, plus I wouldn't have a clue what kind/type of switches to buy since I don't do a ton of wiring. So I hate to ask, Jim, but do you have any pictures of your old manual setup? Or do streetzlegendz or grey99max have any?
I think I remember seeing pictures in your original thread, Jim, but I can't seem to find that thread and the search doesn't do much for me.

For what they're worth - which isn't much without parts list and wiring diagram, but it sure works good.
Good start. Could you describe to me where that wiring harness is that you got the green/red wires off of?
Also, I'd love to see pictures of the manual switch board as far as where all the wires actually go. Again, it's hard for me to translate a sketch into actual physical wiring and switches in my head

The wiring is located next to the automatic transmission dipstick. Look closely, grasshopper.. See the throttle body at the top.

I'll try to start taking some "inside" photos of the manual switch box. "street" had built his version into the dash, while I made mine to be removable, by unplugging everything.

If installed and used properly, how much will this shorten the life expectancy of a moderately modded tranny (VB mod+tranny cooler)?
If installed properly but shifted improperly on occasion, how much will it shorten the life expectancy of the tranny and how much damage can it do with a single mistake given the same set-up (moderately modded tranny)?

If used improperly? I have made a few mistakes, thats why I cautioned earlier, I'm not sure dropping into 1st when you are at 6k in 2nd is good for the trans but its still working fine after 192 1/4 mile runs this year. About 125 of those were with the shift-fast mod, the others with just the DR mod.
Don't think anyone can give you any hard and fast numbers as to what the life expectancy is either way.

Dang - you know what, my MSD version, that shifts 1-2 and 2-3 everytime the MSD reaches its' preset RPMs, just depends on the MSD to ground one wire for the shift up to the next gear. It could even be extended to shift 3-4 as well.
If you had a normally-open switch of any sort replacing the MSD connection, then you could place the switch anywhere and tap it whenever you wanted to shift up. I use another N/O pushbutton to clear everything and make it ready for the next round of excitement. That, and the switch that decides if you're in normal operation or Shift_Fast operation, could be somewhere around the console.
Put the tranny into first gear, switch over to Race from Normal, push the Clear/Reset button, launch and tap the switch to make it shift up each gear.
Once into 3rd gear, on the road, I can put the shifter into Drive and switch back to Normal. When at the track, I wait until I'm at the time slip shack, then hit the Clear/Reset button, which drops me back into first gear immediately - I don't move the shifter out of first until I'm sure.
Warning - mess up and something bad will happen - get the hang of it and you will be fine... You will get codes when using the Shift_Fast - some due to a angry transmission computer. The price you'll pay for Shift_Fast.

The quality is pretty bad, but for $50 bucks... There's gotta be a better way to record live passes, but I'm still looking..
