Hey I need some help with a intercooler size. I have a 95. I have a intercooler on it now that I pulled from my 3rd gen but in will only support 350whp. Well my currnect set up is a hx35. Im planning on trying to get around 450-500 whp area. I want to get a good size inter cooler for my setup and not too big or too small. Can Any one give me a good idea on what will fit or a size that may work for me! Im going to be running around 15-18 spi and it should reach my goal around that area I hope. Or maybe what should I look for in a good intercooler?

 

Have you considered or thought about methanol / water injection? You can keep your current intercooler and just use the meth/water on top of that. You'd be spraying after the IC, right before the TB. This way you dont have to modify anything to fit a larger IC, and its not really expensive, i spent I believe $199 on mine (coolingmist). i really recommend it, i depend on it and has worked fine for me being non-intercooled. You might even get more power out of ur setup with it. i gained I belive about 7whp from spraying it alone, made my mixture alot more richer, if i woulda have leaned it out back to high 11's i woulda made even more power with the meth. look into it. i recommend it.

 

Thats a good idea. If you don't go that route spend a few Jackson's on some good boost books. They have the calcs to help decide on IC sizing. I recomend Corky Bells' stuff and "Street Turbocharging".

 

I have a modified version of the 2 stage unit and it made a huge difference. Stage 1 come on at about 2psi and stage 2 comes on at full boost with a high water volume. I even made a LED indicator to show me when the 2 stages come on to make sure it is working.

 

Thats cool man, I thought I was one of the only few that had water or meth injection. To be honest, I am not sure when mine comes on, i already got the LED, I just have to wire it up. are you using 100% water?

 

80/20 and what I did is I took one of the switch knock out plates put the master swith in it and then used the bar LED's and used 1 vertically for stage 1 and 2 for stage 2. That way I did not have to figure out which one was what stage. Makes it really easy for tunning on the dyno. I can ajust it to come on exactly when I want.

I was putting down 369 whp with this IC, less than 1.5 psi boost loss with the SC putting out 14.5 psi.
