yeah thanks for the clarification. so pretty much s/c kit is not a wise choice for strictly daily city commute from what i can put together.

350hp N/A != 350hp Turbo != 350hp centrifugal S/C.

Let the controversy begin.

Thats why turbos are so hard on everything in the car. Heat for one and the pure shock on the car when trq kicks in. Daily Driving a S/C Maxima is great. If you want pure power, pure track car, then work on a Turbo.

I have to agree with everyone else. The SCer is a great mod for reliablity and the added power however its not going to set any record breaking power acheivements over a turbo. A built NA motor is always going to own in the low end.

I've disassembled and reassembled the kit so many times I bet I could do it blind folded now. (Don't quote me on that, btw). And most importantly, the reason for my lack of enjoyment was that it still wasn't fast even after dropping near 4g's into the setup. To me, fast = WOT pin me to my seat, holysh!tomggonnadie rollercoaster feeling.

Maybe I was close to getting there. Maybe I just missed something. Maybe it was because my kit was just older than everyone elses on here and needed more parts replaced (which it did). There are a lot of helpful experienced encouraging people on this board (matty, i30tmiked, wizard, ptatohed, to name a few) and I do thank all of them for their helpful advice and assistance when I was in need. But in the end all I know is I "toughed it out" for almost a year, and that was long enough for me.

Anyway, that is my story. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not giving up. I'm still on the quest for more power.
Gotcha... glad to hear you're not giving up on the over all quest...

I disagree... I enjoy my daily city commutes all the time, and I always make sure to hit the open roads on the weekends looking for fun!

very well. im constantly finding new little things that i need to purchase to have a complete kit... so far i think all that is left is the bolt kit for plate to motor, adapter for blower to air filter, 2 adapters for blower outlet and TB for 3" piping. 3" maf adapter. just diteched my OBX FMU's for a vortech 8:1, so i need to buy the lines for it (prolly the hardest parts to source). oh ya, also need the 90 degree bend to attach to blower outlet. aside from that im ready to go. i just want to take this damn Dental Admission Test and get it over with before i mess with the car. coughed up nearly 5000 to apply to schools and prepare for this test.

Boost s/c is worth it imo, plus being in Cali with s/c you should be able to still pass emissions without doing much with the s/c. The last s/c max I rode in I was still impressed by it, it wasn't super tricked out or anything just a regular s/c install. if I could do everything over I probably would have went s/c cause it's more bolt on friendy, plus I'm lazy so don't mind me; been trying to install this turbo for almost 2 years now...lazy.

watch out david he smokes SS Camaros and GTP S/C....he has full exhaust ...since you guys are perfectly fine now, I suggest that you run your boost at a safe level.I can't tell you enough that you should make sure your fuel, air, especially your tranny is ran at a safe setting....

I believe the Stillen Supercharger kit was smog legal up until 1997 so if its CARB issues then you might have a bit of trouble, but otherwise, it shouldnt be too bad until you start upgrading things

Actually, 98 was the last legal year for maximas. Recently, both Josh and I passed. I don't know Josh's numbers, but I barely passed. I blame that on my Cattman Fastcat. Next time, I'll put my OEM cat back on.

well unless you tune them...it will not pass...these kits are pretty much altered so you wil0l prolly run lean or rich...they are using smaller pulleys and different FMUs....therefore don't think they will comply with smog specs. Good luck if you are 1999.
