sc'ed questions: idle psi, mpg, exhaust, begi/cartech fmu
hey people, ive had my car sc'ed now for 3.5 months, and it is still running great.
im running a 3.6" pulley on a V1 SC-Trim (i think sc-trim), 3" charge piping, begi/cartech adjustable fmu, step one colder plugs, tial bov with a 7psi spring in it, cattman ypipe (not sure diameter but i think 2.25"), 2.5" straight pipe, and a greddy evo2 (2.25" diameter). stock injectors and throttle. zeitronix unit with boost hooked up & afr hooked up.
questions are:
1. what is your vacuum at idle? my average is about 24. im wondering cause i know i need to change my tial spring since it is totally the wrong pressure for my vacuum, but i want to see if the vacuum is the same for all our cars no matter what pulley we are running.
2. what is your mpg? i had been getting 23 since i sc'ed this in july, within the last 3 weeks i have been getting 20, and it is even lower on this tank. do fuel companies change fuel mixtures for the winter, thus decreasing mpg?? would colder air really make the computer throw that much more fuel into the car? (my calc method is to reset trip when i fill up, then when i fill up again i divide, and i dont top off)
3. what exhaust upgrades should be done for running a 3.125 pulley? (this will be a daily driver, with occasional track runs, but im just having fun learning and working on my car, also i threw the 3.6 on initially so i could make sure it ran right first)
4. anyone else with a begi/cartech adjustable fmu have extremely small amounts of fuel leaking out where the brass hose barbs thread into the unit?

1. 18-22 is the norm, regardless of pulley size.
2. Everyone's mpg will be different, I would think. I get 23/28 (city/fwy) FWIW. Nissan claims our cars should get 22/27 (city/fwy) for a 5 spd. Auto's should get 21/28. Maybe now that you're more comfortable with your car/install and you know it's running right.....you're more of a leadfoot??
3. What you have already is just fine for a 3.125 pulley.
4. Never heard of anyone with this problem.

the mpg thing is a night and day difference.
highest i usually rev to is 4k, and when the car is cold i will only rev up to 2.5k like stillen suggests in their write-up until the engine has warmed up properly. i dont let my tank run down till the fuel light comes on so that i dont damage the fuel pump, and for the first three months sc'ed i would fill up at bout 330 miles on the tank. now im going to be filling up at 280 miles on the tank. that doesnt seem normal, especially since i have done zero changes to my setup.
the begi/cartech issue is odd, cause these are pipe threaded hose barbs provided in the kit, so they shouldnt need any sealant to keep them from leaking.

variations in ethonal in gas could be the result of you having up and down fuel economy. The ideal vaccum reading on your boost guage is at 20. Check your lines for age and your T fitting to make sure you have everything in the most efficient manor. You shouldnt drive your car until it is warm regardless of what anyone says or what stillen has written in the manual. Think about it, it only makes sense. What happens when you get on it when its cold...not much so why not just let it warm up. Your motor is made from aluminum and is very temp sensitive, your blower cost $850 to rebuild (gears, shaft and bearings) not including the pulley. You can even hold the rpm's at 1500 or just bounce up and down from there to speed up the warming process a bit. I ran the 3.125 pulley at 10 psi on the v1 with the stock stillen kit including the aux fuel pump no tunning or any fuel upgrades. You want the best exhaust then get the cattman, sounds sweet with great quality
