Turbocharger question

Alright guys before i buy this turbo i want to hear some last opinions on spool time and such.

Its a Master Power T61. Uses Garrett internals, they have proven quality so im not concerned about that.

Its a .70 A/R Compressor side, and .68 A/R Turbine side, t4 flanged, 3" Vband discharge and 4" inlet.

Basically its almost exactly what i wanted minus the T4 footprint. What im wondering is how is spool time going to be? I dont want a turbo that makes no boost till 4000rpm or something.

What are your guys opinions on this size turbo?

Here are the specs:

Turbine Wheel:
-Exducer Diameter: 2.30"
-Mayor Diameter: 2.91"

Compressor Wheel:
-Exducer Diameter: 2.40"
-Mayor Diameter: 3.58"

Turbine Housing:
-A/R: .68
-Type: Undivided
-Discharge: V-Band
-inlet: T4

Compressor housing:
-A/R: .70
-Air Inlet: 4.00"

thanks guys
chris

I'm not a forward y-pipe pro, but my guess is 4000-4300rpm.

On a RMT it'd be upwards of 5000rpm.

Hmmmm. This is all interesting. Yeah it would be on a forward y pipe style(Neal's old kit).

So 4000-4300RPM when im getting boost or 4000-4300 for full boost, lets say 8psi.

For my current turbocharger - Garrett T3/T4 .60-.63 it reaches 8psi full boost at 4000rpms.

I have a new turbo waiting to go in - Garrett T3/T4 .57-.48....i hope it will spool up at 3000rpms.

Hmmm alright. Considering its RMT and its getting full boost of 8psi by 4000rpm ill make a un-educated guess that id be hitting 8psi close to that, perhaps 4500rpm area.

Thats not too bad, i guess it would pull like a bat out of hell on the freeway.

So how are you liking boost? I went from a very similar sitatuation like you, just not happy with all the NA bolt ons lol..even though i originally thought i would.

Sorry to squeez in your conversation, what do you guys think about a GT3071R. Is it a good turbo or is it too much for the maxima with stock internals ?

Specs on those are : 71mm, 56 Trim, 0.50 A/R

I would ask Neal. I believe he had a T61 on his kit so he would be able to give you the best answer seeing as he already used that turbo on his kit.

this is a good turbo but i think a bit small for a 3.0. i put one on a 1.8t with a larger trim and that car flies

Yeah i asked Neal he said it should be good. But i thought id throw it out there for some other opinions. Its always good to hear more opinions.

So i think im going to go for this.

the GT3071R is a good turbo, and it is pretty large, but in the a/r and trim i dont think its going to be the best suited. But then again it depends onw hat you want. If you want quick spool then yeah i think it would work, but if you want top end monster, i think its a little on the small side, given its ball bearing its going to spool quick.

You knwo the GT series are water/oil cooled, so you'll need to run water lines to the turbo too.

The reason why I asked is because this is biggest turbo which can fit in that "Kit" without any issues according to Doug Adams from Turbo Specialties. I think it can put down pretty good numbers with proper fuel upgrades and other thing I suppose. I mean its HP max out at 475 or some where around there. Or what is your opinion on GT3076R top end or no end?

What are the specs of the 3076? Its a 76MM turbo so thats pretty large for a maxima, actually moving into 2jzgte territory lol.

Honestly, you should be fine with the 3071, see if you can get a larger a/r. The SRT guys seem to be happy with the 3071, and are making some very significant numbers with them, 400whp range, so i cant see why you wouldnt be able to make some serious power with it.

Ill let someone more knowledgeable chime in though

no. 3076 is named that way because the exducer is 76mm, not the inducer (which is 57mm), which is where older turbos like my T61 get their names from (61mm inducer). 3076Rs are common turbos on high powered 4 bangers like the SRT4. you can make about 500 perhaps 550whp on pump gas on one on the right setup. 3071Rs are used on a lot of 400whp type 4-bangers. 3076R it is a step down in size from the GT35R (GT3582R). I think a 3071R would be pretty good on that turbospecialties kit, if you've convinced yourself to buy a kit such as that. 3076r would be sweet - I'd love to see how the response would be on a 3.0 from that.

Well the only reason I'm going with that kit is is kinda complete per say. I don't have access to weld or pipe bending machine. So why not less work, but I will upgrade my injectors and fuel pump. Don't know if I should use their fuel control system or get E-manage.
