Hi,

I am researching putting a turbo on my VG30E Maxima and want to know what kind of boost I can hope to get with a Garrett Turbo Water Cooled T3 60/63? It is for sale near me.

Any info on power curves, etc. would be helpful. Thanks.

that turbo - especially on the wheezing VG30E, would make for a motor that would fall off bad up top but have a lot of grunt in the low-mid range rpms.

Thanks. This whole turbo thing is new to me. So, what kind of turbo would be good for high end power/torque on the VG30E but not have too much lag, maybe build boost by 2500 or 3000 rpms and go to redline w/ top HP at 350-450?

I also have a VE30DE parts car that I may be able to fix up or swap the driveline into my GXE. So, as you said, the VG doesn't have much of a top end, but what would the T3 do on a VE30DE?

it'd still drop off a bit by my estimation, but not nearly as bad as the VG would. a t3 wheel is pretty small (you haven't specified which, but they're all pretty small and they'll all drop off on a VE).

your requirements in the previous post are probably not possible. if they were, everyone would be doing that because that's what we all want, a turbo that spools as low in the RPMs as possible and keeps on going up top You have to make a compromise, just gotta decide which aspect is more important to you. midrange punch or high rpm power.

Hmmm....I guess that's why some cars have twin turbos. Well, I don't want to monopolize your time but I have a few more questions.

When do you think the T3 would start spooling? If not in the 2500-3000rpm range or before then which turbo would have that low end range? Also, if this or another turbo started spooling at 2500rpms how high would the boost last up the rpm range on average? Do turbos have a fixed rpm range in general?

Sorry for all the questions. I'll get a book on this soon.

Thanks again,

My t3 spools around 2500.

You can't really compare your turbo to the one he's talking about. Yours is a T3/T4 (T3 turbine, T4 compressor) and his is a true T3 (both turbine and compressor).

I think a T3 would start spooling around 2500rpm, but it wouldn't keep the power climbing all the way to redline. It'd peak and then start falling again. How bad it started falling would depend on whether you do the VE or the VG, and also on what T3 wheel it is.

i can compare seeing i have a t3 wheel for the turbine. So it spools as a t3 but i will move air as a t4

Sweet. I'm gonna go grab the turbine off of a T25 and connect it to the compressor of a GT55R

Well, I don't actually have the Turbo yet, so I can't say what characteristics it has. But, It seems you are saying you have a hybrid turbo which has the characteristics of both the T3 and T4. I assume a smaller turbine spools faster and a larger compressor moves more air. So, what is the power curve of your setup?

Whats funny is you can get pretty much that setup They have a 62-1 compressor with a 48 ar turbine . Thats almost the same size as the t25 you know.
