Question about belt sizes

Hi all - sorry for the n00bish questions but I'm getting some conflicting advice I need to clarify with the experts.

I'm going to be running a V2 setup with hopefully 11psi of boost.

I was sold a second hand kit with two pulleys.

One is 2.87" and the other 2.62"

What the guy told me is the 2.87" pulley would do 11 psi. However when I look it up on the FAQ's it states that it does 13 psi?? The 2.62" pulley isn't listed in the FAQ but the seller claimed 14 psi.

I'm not sure which gates belts I received but the one supposedly for the 2.87" pulley got a bit beaten up in the mail so i'll be looking at a replacement.

I'm wanting to run only the 2.87" pulley as I don't want to over boost my 200,000 km VQ.

So would that be a K060705 belt or a K060703 from gates?

This is a stupid question, but i'd rather clarify than doing the wrong thing and buying something I don't need.

The kit I have, has had some "modification" done to it as well (something to do with rotating the supercharger on the plate a little), which apparently helps with the belt shredding issues - if that makes any difference to belt sizes I have no idea.

Cheers all.

Just to confirm....V1 or V2 plate? Any aftermarket pulleys?

Assuming you have a V2 plate and standard pulleys, the correct belt for a 2.87 is K060695. I have it, Ptatohed has it, works great.

Can you get Goodyear out there? If so, the part # is 4060695

If you're only looking to run 11 PSI, I would look into getting a larger pulley. The 2.87 will probably have you making 13 PSI, maybe more.

I also hope you're taking a closer look at your fuel setup if you go with a 2.87 or 2.62...........

Thanks for the responses guys

Wizard: I have a V2 plate - Already have the fuel system setup ready to go. 555cc deastchwerk injectors, 300ZX MAF and emanage - So I should be OK. We do have goodyear here.. if I can't find a gates one i'll try a goodyear belt. Are they better?

Kzoosho: Sorry dude, keeping the pulley in case I want to run more boost at a later stage. Besides, I'm in Australia - it'd cost you a bit in postage.

Was chatting with ptatohed on maximasdownunder.org when he signed up looking for an Australian instrument cluster. He was telling me I shouldnt need to upgrade the exhaust (though beneficial) to run 11psi. So basically the lowest pulley I have is 13 psi?? I guess this would mean doing the exhaust?

Your setup sounds solid.

IMO, I think Goodyear belts are slightly better since they have the grooves which they claim are there to reduce slippage. I'm not sure if Gates has a warranty, but Goodyear offers lifetime warranties on their belts. Ptatohed shredded one, brought in the remains (which looked like a big rubberband) and walked out with a new belt free of charge.

Exactly.

IMO, the exhaust isn't crucial at all in the sense that your car won't run right or anything. Not having an exhaust just means you're leaving some power on the table for the time being. When you tackle the exhaust, I'd do a ypipe or headers first, then a highflow cat and catback later.

Wizard - you're helpful - thanks.

I'll check out a goodyear belt.

I have a set of headers ready to go. They're a set of Woolf headers from New Zealand. Very similar to the first gen cattman's I think.

I didn't get the Y Section as I thought I would need to run 3" and woolf could only provide me with a 2.5" Y section. Maybe I should have taken it?

Unfortunately my Dad lives in another country (New Zealand). He's flying over in a few weeks to help me out with this install. With this in mind, I don't have the cash to do the exhaust or tranny yet. I at least want to get the tranny's VB Mod/Shift Kit installed first, but I guess this wont matter too much for a short amount of time.
