my trans gave up on me... do i rebuild old one or what. with the bad clutch and sliping I did 337 to the wheel...... i put in a stage 4 six puck and my trans gave up on me in less than a week it was fun for a while.

 

read the sticky I posted and the other threads going on in this forum currently about trans buildups first of all...

 

does the 98 j30 have the 5spd vlsd trans ?

The J30's differential is not in the transmission, it's in the rear diff. RWD for those too slow to know what that means. They also only came in automatic.

 

j30 is rear wheel drive home slice, so like mtrai said...

do you mean the I30? I30t's came in 5spd VLSD, not sure what year this was limited to though, if it was limited to certain years.

 

Noob query so no flames pls .. Did you bed the clutch in properly? Just thought if you blew it in a week didn't allow for much bedding in time

 

He didnt blow the clutch he said the trans let go. Thats a tranny issue.

 

my mech. said somthing about the shaft in the transmission broke, it makes a weird noise until i step on the clutch...... 5th gear does not work it just makes a grinding noise... and reverse is hard as hell to go in. at one point i was stuck in 5th.

 

yeah my dumb butt was pushing it a lil too much

 

sounds like you might have broken a shift rail end (i like to call them fingers, not sure what their official name is) or a shift fork. if that's the case it's an easy fix, no need to spend a crapload on a new trans or full rebuild. IF that's what it is
