Shopping for 3" I/C pipping & T bolt clamp
Shopping for 3" I/C pipping & T bolt clamp
Hey guys, I'm currently shopping for a 3" universal intercooler pipping kit, I was able to find few interesting kit, but beside the chitty standard hose clamp that every one sell, the pipping is mandrel bend and look fine to me, see it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-UNI...es#ht_1777wt_0
I'm also shopping for T bolt clamp, do you think this size will work: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-...18#ht_1707wt_0
If you think that 3" is not the right size for my soon to be supercharged 2k1 build engine, then please let me know what would be the ideal size.
At last I'm wondering if anyone can direct me to a good quality intercooler that would fit on my 2k1 maxima, I would really appreciate your input as I want to buy the right product now.
Thanks

Please search. This has been discussed many, many times. The Wizard and I have clearly written about what we used and how we did it. Tip: include intakehoses.com in your search. Others have offered other options too. Thanks.
Thank you guys, I pretty much found out what I was looking for. Depending on the space available, I'm thinking of doing a permanent cold air in front of the car, similar to what is done on M5. I need to get the blower in order to make the mock-up but that should come very soon.
I've asked the shop I'm dealing with to quote me for:
V1 T trim, V2 T trim or V3 brand new.
Thanks again.

Sorry I didn't mentioned but the V3 is the Si model, I was surprise of the very reasonable price but also of the efficiency of 78% which is much better than the V1 or V2. At this point I need to be confirmed that it will fit Matty's V1 kit, otherwise I'd really want a V2 T trim over the V1 T trim but I cant seem to find it on Vortech website.
If anyone can confirm this, I'd be ready to be the first Max running a V3.

How are you going to run a CAI from the front and also run an intercooler?
Curious, how much boost are you planning on running and what are your plans for fuel and its management?
Now to answer your question about the cold air, at this point I'm waiting for the pipping to arrive so I can see what is possible to do, because I'm getting rid of the A/C and all the associate crap. That should give me extra room to play with but I dont know it might not be feasible but I'm willing to look into it. Basically I'm thinking of cutting enough room to have 2 x 3" pipping to go underneath the car in the back of the right front headlamp. I'll probably have to cut a whole of 7-8 inches diameter, and have the cold air routed in the fog light whole. I'll see what is feasible but since I'm willing to custom fabricate a lot of stuff so that doesn't bother me to try.

I'm planning to start with a 2.87 pulley just so I can have the engine run properly and as soon as the engine run smoothly I'll move to the 2.62. My engine is being build at this time so I'm going to run 9.5:1 C/R Arias piston, fully port & polished heads with 1 mm oversize valve, HR double shim, HR spring, HR hat, HR head bolts, AJUSA full gasket set, Toga high performance oil pump, Toga high perf. main & rod bearing, bronze manganese valve guide, cattman gen 3 headers, S1 knock off cam and the list goes on, my engine will be able to easily sustain 15 to 20 lbs of boost.

With the FMIC im not sure the V1 or V2 is going to hit those PSI numbers.
I know the foglight hole will work, another member did that,.. unfortunately he hdyrolocked is motor from that setup also.
The shop I'm dealing with just called me, they are giving me a very good price for the blower,( under list price in CDN $$$ ) so at this point I'm only considering first a V3 Si or if for any reason it doesn't work with Matty's V1 kit, then I'll get the V2 T trim.
Here are the questions i need to answer before I bit the bullet.
1- Will the V3 fit Matty's V1 kit ?
2- Is this the right V3 model I need to buy:
V-3 Si-Trim, 45 Degree Tilt to the Right, Straight Discharge, Clockwise, Polished
Finish. Part # 2F228-038
Sorry for all the questions but I've never bought a Vortech blower before and I want to make sure I order the right one.
If anyone in Canada would like to know the price I got, feel free to PM me and I'll be glad to give you my price and contact name.
Thanks for helping.

Sounds impressive,.. but just out of curiosity if your having the motor fully built why not go with a turbo vs. the SC?

Clockwise orientation on the blower won't work, needs to be counterclockwise. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they make one, or do you know something we don't know??

As far as fitment, I think you're going to have to call Vortech and ask, or ask them to send you a free catalog and determine it yourself. It has all the dimensions of EVERYTHING in architectural drawing format. Cool stuff. My catalog is from '07 and the V3 isn't listed, otherwise I'd help you out.

I have been working on the project for 2 year and gathering parts and such, I have Matty's V1 Kit and the bracket is getting black chromed at this moment, for me it's too late to change my mind. I also preferred the S/C, because I'm auto and it is much easier on the tranny & engine compare to a Turbo.
Good luck, sounds nice!

I mean the only pics of the V3 left me skeptic but I didn't know that's why I asked, I called several time at Vortech, but I can never get anyone on the good old phone. I just read on their website that the V3 is compatible with pretty much all bracket but doesn't come in counter clock wise version.
Just got a price confirmation on the V2 T trim ( while writing this reply ) it's a no brainer then I'm going for the V2 T trim, counterclockwise.
Thanks for the help.

Ok guys, just got off the phone with a tech a Vortech. The V3 is only available as a kit, so we cant just buy the V3 blower itself, so that pretty much burst my bubble for the V3.
Anyway I'm going to order a V2 T trim brand new asap.

Is it a universal kit or vehicle specific?
I've search on Vortech website but cant find any V2 Si-Trim, they have the V2 SQ-S Trim, V2 SQ SC Trim, V2 SQ E Trim, and the V2 T trim but never heard of the V2 Si-Trim.
If you can find me a link to that trim I'd take a look but as of now I'm shooting for the V2 T Trim.

Hey guys, I need a bit of help here. I called Vortech and asked them the part number for the V2 T trim counterclockwise which is ( 2E239-238 ) it come with a 3.8 pulley that I wont use.
The technicien specified me that there is no place on the blower to attach the tensioner, is this a show stopper ?
I know Stillen is making a tensioner, where does this tensioner has to be attached ?
Is this what I need to order ? Before I get flame to do search, I have search and found the part number for the stillen tensioner but I need someone to confirm this would work or not. I'm just waiting for that last information to order the blower now.
Thank you again.

On a side note, look at page 68 in Ptatohed's SC writeup. The layout of the belt and tensioner is there.
Not following you here. The tensioner doesn't "attach" to the blower. Since you're using Matty's V1 plate, you have nothing to worry about since you'll be using the OEM tensioner assembly. You're good to go.

The 4 page Stillen list I have contain all the parts numbers and the descriptions, it tell you how many piece of each parts you need, so it's very interesting. Yesterday I started to make my own list and there is a bunch of stuff I'll be able to get locally but some other will be order from Stillen. If anyone would like to get the list to maybe post it in the sticky's I'd be willing to send it over.
Cheers

Thanks for the link SpoolVQ35. I have order the 3" piping from Threadstone but got the clamp on e-bay. I only order 2 silicon couplers as I'm not sure if I'll use coupler, I'd like to weld everything but I'll take that decision later.
I'm thinking of buying this intercooler: http://treadstoneperformance.com/pro...10+Intercooler
I've check the measurement on my naked front max, and it seem to be close to a perfect fit behind the JDUB front bumper, from what I can tell but what do I know ? Can anyone tell me if this size would be good enough ?
BTW I'm really grateful to get input from you guys, otherwise I'd be alone in the world and this project could never come to an end.
Thank you all for that great help.
* Oh I forgot to say, I'm finally ordering the brand spanking new fully polished Vortech V2 T trim counter clock wise tomorrow from Garage Five of BC - Canada. Robert Tam is a great guy to deal with and he's been very kind & helpful.

I finally ordered the piping from Max Redline, little more expensive than other place but the piping is 2 mm thick, fully polished and each end has a bead. I didn't order the intercooler yet but the size I showed in the link should be close to perfect. Basically I'm making a mock-up with a brown box cut the same size has the I/C and see how the fitting goes. The car prep is going well, it took us more time because when we remove the silicon in the seam we realised we need to sandblast those seam as there was rust all over. I'm trying to finish this dirty job by the evening this week, and put new silicon back in those seam.
Hopefully we should be able to prime and paint the engine bay over the next week-end. This has been a painstaking job to do, but in order to have the best paint job possible this was inevitable and I'm quite happy at how thing are going.
On another note Dave B has ship me all the missing parts I was looking for the engine, so if I can get those parts this week I'll be able to drop the engine parts at the shop and get this engine assemble & balance.
I'm actually reading about the fuel delivery, tuning, EU set-up... oh boy I'm going to need help for that aspect.
I'll post some pics later tonight.
Have a good day everyone.
