Started tearing the 3.5 apart today. I am going to get the timing chain both primary and secondary off tomorrow. Then i can pull the cams and the heads. once done with that off to the machine shop for fitting the pistons.

Thats really all the progress i have. I know im slow but o well.

In for progress and results!! The regular 3.5 with boost is a beast by itself, this thing is going to be insane.

Looks awesome man! Are you hoping to have it done in time for MAXUS 09?

Any pics of the roll bar project?

So is this going to be a bolt-in thingie? not that I'll never need one, but having one in the car might rattle the street kiddies a bit.

Pictures would be good - when you have some...

Well what i plan to do is, model it on the car. Then cut if off. That way i can replicate it and maybe sell it. It would require removing things here and there but i want to make it as stealth as i can seeing i dont want anyone to know i have it.

Well, that's not fun - "if ya got it, flaunt it" works for a roll bar or cage, don't ya think?

So what are your plans for a design? Make it as a bolt-in, since you're thinking about selling? or does a roll cage have to be welded down? I guess I can research this out on my own, but asking someone who has been planning how to do it is much easier. Not that I'll ever need one.....

well welding is the best way to me. If i sell them thats how they would need to be assembled. I am welding mine in once done so a 6 point is easy. 2 points in the front, then the b pillars, and 2 points in the rear. it will be a cage per say.

So you would strip out whatever trim is in the way, assemble the parts, and weld in place ?

Yes. I plan to make it so the b pillars can go back on to hid those bars. I am trying to find a way to do it to the a pillars since i have the triple pod there.

Sounds like major dash surgery there. How about the other two mounting points? Some sort of extension from the main over-the-driver loop to the rear floorboard?

Also, didn't i30crab have a cage in his street car? Seem to remember that...

Keep thinking..... I'm sure I won't need one, but....

There is a difference between a cage and a roll bar according to the NHRA and IHRA rule books. You won't need to bother with any kind of rollbar until you hit 11.49. And after you already have the properly designed 5-6 point roll bar installed, if you need to upgrade to a rollcage, it isn't hard at all. But you won't ever see 9s. haha I really hope someone proves me wrong!

Everything needs to be welded. Since we have a unibody chassis, the tube must be welded to flat plates then the plates welded to our car or you can sandwich two plates around the body and bolt the plates together.

Here's a good illustration that shows a 5 point roll bar that I may have to do in my Maxima one day. Taken from http://www.nhra.org/contacts/tech_faq.html

And yeah, i30krab had a rollbar in his i30. When I lived in Vegas, we had a chance to meet up a couple times at the track and Nissan meets.
