Clutch Decsion
Well got my taxes and upgrading my clutch. Leaning towards act but looking for some input. Also might help VG30 3rd gen. I don't want something to stiff hard to drive in light traffic. But also be able to hold some power. Any input would be great. Running or will be when get clutch 20psi give or take a couple with a holset he351 So far this is my choice NM1-HDR4 http://www.advancedclutch.com/produc...d_id=2247#2247

i think any upgraded clutch meant to hold a decent amount of power will have a stiff pressure plate, hence a stiff pedal feel. but it all depends on what you want. im doing a DE-K S/C and i'mma do the exedy stage2, i haven't heard anything bad about that kit. if you dont want anything too aggressive, stay away from pucks (even though they are cheaper 'cause less material is used to make them), and unsprung clutch kits. 6 puck is ok, but 4 and below, you're asking for trouble if your tranny is stock.

I agree all the way here. Ive had the spec stage 3 for more than 6 year/60k miles and I absolutely love it! Pedal pressure is just like stock since the 6 puck grabs so hard it doesnt need extra clamping force to hold 515 ft/lbs of torque. With the light pedal pressure, its easy to slip the clutch to the point where it feels just like stock. Best of both worlds, grab like no ones business when you need it, and easily eliminate chatter in street driving.

Pucks offer more holding power over full face due to more pressure over less area which is a nice benefit with them not needing as strong of a pressure plate as full faces. Holding power also depends on the material of the clutch. You can get an upgraded full face that will hold more power and be nice for daily driving while a 6-puck may have some chatter at low rpms. The full face is more DD friendly because it's easy to slip while a 6-puck will not like to be slipped. Be careful if going for big horsepower numbers and going with a 6-puck and aluminum flywheel because you can weld the two together from slipping a 6/4-puck for too long.

i was reading reviews of different clutches, and whatever you do even though it might be tempting trust me, i was, stay away from ebay cheap clutch kits unless you dont mind replacing them often. for example XTD clutch kit, only $140 for a stage 3, sweet price, but not very durable. some guy on another nissan forum for 240s said he bought one and with only 10k miles, his started to slip. another guy said one of his puck broke off but since he lives close to XTD, they replaced it for free. now some people have good things to say so far. from what i read XTD uses ACT pressure plate, not sure how true that is but the disc itself, aint worth the risk. im using clutch masters stage 3.
