Is it any easier to tune Nistune versus EMU yourself? You still need to know what your doing tuning either one.

My point of wanting the Nistune is because Im my opinion and experience EMU is to unstable.. and the stock ECU is always fighting against the EMU especially in idle.. again the is from my experience. Many tuners I contacted won't even tune EMU because of my previous statement. I know others have tuned it successfully but I have been unfortunate so Im looking to move on to something better.

btw did you guys purchase the consult cable from Nistune? They want 95 bucks for it and Im wondering if it can be had cheaper somewhere else.
You would get a cel with either 95 or 96 ecu in a 97 because of the rear o2 sensor as the 95 and 96 have 3 wire o2 sensor in the cat and the 97 has 4 wire o2 sensor after the cat but I would go with a early 95 ecu as it has less emissions parts on it like no purge valve and the famous evap code that the 4th gens get but it you know how to use an eu then you can figure out how to use the Nistune as there are instructions they have to download

Oh man.. so either one 95 or 96 ecu would throw a code and can't be deleted?
That's bad for emissions .. I can't pass inspections with a CEL.

I wonder if Nistune can delete them. So you think I would be better off with a 95 auto ecu versus a 96? I was thinking a 96 was more compatible with a 97.

You can follow these instructions on the ecu harness where the ecu connects simply move pin 107 to 105, and ground 112, allthough you could run it to it's own ground near the cupholders, etc, I'd just prefer to tap into one of the many existing grounds............1997 = 10, 19, 25, 32, 43, 124, 108, 116, and more!*

Ummmm, as of where to get a female connector........ Steal it from #114, it's one of several used for evap crap not needed by the '95 ecu.*

But I do remember having my 96 ecu in my 97 and not having a cel but I'm sure it would have come on eventually due to that o2 sensor but it's still an easy fix. And are you an auto or manual? I recommend that you get the correct ecu weather you have auto or manual because you can't put an auto ecu in a manual as you will have a code

I Think I got my hands on a 96 ecu would it be the same?

When you say ground 112 isn't it a ground already? Or are you saying run a ground wire from the o2 sensor and tap it into 112 pin on the ecu? Or (lol) just tap pin 112 into a ground?

I'm an auto .. yes I will make sure I get a 96 auto ecu.. I'm also Cali spec , does it matter if I get a 96 fed specs? My 97 Cali spec rear o2 is the 4 wire.

Awesome .. they look identical as far as components bet a 96 and 97 even a 95

So what you'll do is take pin 107 out and move it into 105 (as 105 will be empty thats why your moving 107 there because on the 95 ecu it's for the rear o2 sensor) and with pin 112 you leave it in its place and just tap into it with a ground

So it looks like If I use a 96 ecu which is what I was planning on doing I don't have to move wire 107 because its in the same place as in a 97. As for the ground 112, I read that the 97 maxima 4 wire rear o2 sensor already is grounded in the sensor somehow. I guess thats why we don't see a ground for the 96 and 97 ecu for rear o2 in the diagram here.

So any benefit in using the 95 ecu over a 96? I plan on replacing my engine with a 3.5 in the near future due to leaking piston seals in my 3.0.. getting a lot of blow by fumes.

You have to ground pin 112 but you can get a 96 ecu and see what happens like I said before I use a 96 in my 97 and the cel didn't come on but I didn't have it in the car long. And like i said the early 95 ecu has less emissions parts And do your self a favor and don't get a 3.5 unless your going to build it

Hmm maybe I will be better off with the 95 ecu then especially with a 3.5 swap. well I will roll with whatever i get my hands on 96 or 95 auto ecu

I actually plan on going with an 07 altima motor. Just want to upgrade the cams nothing else.. Im not looking on making as much power as possible. Also staying with 3.0 timing. I already have the VB upgrade and plan on high stall Tq convertor and bigger tranny cooler. I just need to find someone knowledgeable of the swap. I have time.. trying to squeeze as much time as possible out of my 3.0.. I have leaking piston rings now and getting a lot of blow by.

I wish you^ luck finding an early production '95.

I had a WTB posted for months and got lucky spotting a part out from the guy who did the 95 ECU swap write up.

Everyone knows it's rare too, so $150 is typical.

Do you have headers or stock pre-cats? When you say out of your 3.0 you mean 3.0 timming since you have a 3.5? Do you still have endri's car or is this a different car? That new motor, cams, and sc will be interesting. Deffinetely testing the limits of the stock engine with cams and sc.

I have Cattman headers, this is my car lol original owner. You must be confusing with someone else.

I mean 3.0 engine.. I didn't do a swap yet but I will have to soon.. I don't think I will pass inspections with blow by and leaking piston seals. I can hide the smoke with a catch can system and run it back into the supply temporarily but I still don't know if that will pass emissions.

I see no point of doing rods , pistons , on 3.0 timing so why spend the money. I'll just do cams only. Anyway this is off Nistune topic. So let's keep on topic.

My Nistune experience

So I made the jump to Nistune from a jwt ecu. Cost ~$ 700 for everything including shipping. I wish I went with nistune before my jwt.

The jwt ecu was programmed for sc, s2 cams, 542cc injectors, z32 maf and 7200 redline. The car would run but a bit rich. Car would bog under light loads. I didn't like the fact I couldn't adjust anything without sending it back to jwt.

Matt from nistune was a great person to deal with. It took less than 2 weeks from shipping the ecu out till it was back in my hands. The nistune ecu comes flashed with a stock room to work from. Also their website is filled with useful information on tuning.

I was able to dl the jwt map to my comp before swapping the ecu for nistune. I then tweaked the fuel a bit more and burned the map to the ecu! Wow! What a difference! No bogging and the car feels like a completely different car. I'm wondering how the car will do once I get it strapped to the dyno and tweaked more. So the cookie cutter map from jwt was OK but not worth it in the end. I recommend anyone looking for tuneablity to go with Matt at nistune. He kept me up to date on my ecu the whole time. Well worth investment!

Why would you go to the dyno to tweak it?

Well I haven't dynoed my car yet. I kinda wanted to see how much power it's putting down and if it needs to be tweaked to run more efficiently.

Did you know when you download a ecu through consult you only download 90% of the first image as the ecu had two 64kb banks

Yes. Thanks though for the heads up. I noticed it when I could only download the standard fuel and timing maps. It didn't dl the knock fuel and timing.

You can always save the file or copy it manually worse senerio.

I got my Nistune in and will be removing EMU and doing a retune.. I won't maximize potential since I have blown piston seals on my 3.0... getting a lot of blow by. New engine in the works.

One cool thing Mat at Nistune was able to do for me was make a tick box for EGR so it can control an output for the MEVI or other source. EGR will function normal until a set RPM then it will switch and control the Solenoid for MEVI. I think its a cool feature Mat was able to do for me. Mats customer service is awesome.

Too bad I will be kissing MEVI goodbye due to an 06 engine swap.

If you go the route I went which is 3.5 with pathfinder heads you can keep your mevi

Nah I'm gonna sell it.. SSIM and NWP intake spacers are proven to flow better and add more gains. You can find dyno runs that prove it.

Hmmm why would you make a statement and not back it up? Please enlighten me on what in your opinion you think I'm doing wrong. ( no pun intended)

boosted.. supercharger 13psi.

MEVI for DD is useless .. I have my MEVI activating at 6200 rpm in that range is it effective… For normal cruising it does nothing and might as well not even be there. Opening it up to soon 5500 rpm and under hurts boost.. I have seen my dyno runs that prove this. Maybe for NA its different? I don't know..

From what I read SSIM is about the same.. higher end power.. its a give and take application.. others may say different. Im just stating my experience with the MEVI. Anyway this is probably the wrong place to discuss this since its a Nistune thread.

Oh I see your issue with the mevi.......6200 rpm activation is making your mevi useless being that the dropping off point of the would be 5200 rpm on a stock manifold......so you should of had your activation point at 5200 rpm then your car would of gained power from 5200 rpm until 6500+ rpm what ever your fuel cut would of been

I will try it once I tune on the Nistune but Im telling you anytime I brought it on sooner resulted in loss of power.

Well nistune or not....maybe your switch isn't working and your mevi isn't opening up but if I were you I would just remove the butterfly's and remove the electronic part of the mevi system

The Mevi is opening and working fine.. I watched it open and can verify on the Dyno when it opened.

Hmmm I guess Im one of the unfortunate ones.. anyway Im moving on from the MEVI and EMU soon so I really don't care anymore.. I just wanted to share my experience.

Has anyone else had this done? I'm confused as to how I'd wire this up.

This is the info I got from Matt..

"The MEVI requires a VCT controller of sorts to activate the solenoid to control the valve timing. I identified that the only available output would be the one controlling the EGR solenoid. The EGR output is negative controlled. You change the wiring from the EGR to the VCT solenoid. The other end of the VCT solenoid is ignition switched 12V power. This activates the VCT solenoid when in certain load/rpm ranges.

EGR solenoid will no longer function once VCT is enabled. In the software you disable ‘EGR’ to use the output for VCT. You need to disconnect EGR solenoid and wire to VCT. Do not splice and run two solenoids from the single driver output! It would blow up the driver due to excessive current load.

If you need EGR for emissions later on, then swap the wire back and reenable the ‘EGR’ tickbox in the ‘feedback flags’ parameter in the software."

My ECU should be there tomorrow

OH and I spoke to JSutter who believes I can use the actual EGR solenoid for the MEVI. Same thing right?
