my tires hum too. i have a 96 max and lost my stock rims/tires for 17" motegi's and 225/45/17 sumitomo tires. they were perfectly quiet at first (i've had them about 7 months now) but now are starting to hum. i took it to NTB and they told me it was because they were coupling or whatever, and to just have it rotated and aligned and the noise would go away. still waiting for it to quit though.

Some tires are naturally louder than others. Things such as tread pattern, rubber composition, size (low profile), etc... play a big part in tire noise. That is why places such as tirerack.com rate noise. In my experience, high performance tires hum more than touring tires.
If it is excessive, or only coming from 1 or 2 tires, have it checked out. It could be suspension wear, improper tire mounting/balancing, or tire defects.
