Offset????

I have been reading but I still don't get it.. Sorry I'm just slow I guess.. lol

K, So with a higher offset, the rims will stick out more right?? Or is it the other way around....

And where do I find out what the stock offset is on my 1995 GLE?

Thankx,
244

Oh yea and I did read the sticky on the top of this forum, but I could not make heads or tails out of it...

the LOWER the number the MORE it will stick out.

the HIGHER the number the LESS it will stick out.

I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish exactly, but be sure you don't try to select an offset based purely on cosmetic reasons, since that is not why offset is such a big deal. Depending on how big (wide) of a wheel/tire combo you're looking at, only a given offset range will fit properly.

First off Thankx DanNY for the answer.

And Bman, well, now I'm even more lost, I have been following the guide at http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaWheels and was looking for a set of rims that would fall between a 35-40mm and just wanted to know what the offset would do as far as the wheels sitting on the car.

Well, I don't know how crazy you want to go tire width-wise, but I've heard of some pretty crazily wide tires on a 4th Gen. That is only accomplished by choosing a set of wheels with an offset that fits just perfectly in the wheel wells and gives enough room to cram those massive tires in. This means of course, that if you want to be more conservative on tires and don't need them to be so huge you have more leeway as to what offsets will work. Unfortunately I don't know what works for 4th Gens, so you'll have to try searching for some advice on that this forum or the 4th Gen one. But since that page you linked suggests +35mm to +40mm I guess that's what should work since I'm assuming the page was written with 4th Gens in mind (although it doesn't say how wide of a tire that allows you). Good luck.

Hey,
Well on the other page it give a guide to follow. http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaTires so I'm tring to use that... I would have asked a tire question in the 4 Gen forum but I noticed that the mods or admins move them here, so I figured I better ask my question here instead of there..
