Tire size/Performance

Guys,
ive got 16x7.5 wheels with 215/55 on em and i want to go up a size. Im going to get the yoko es100's and im cant decide wether to get the 225/55 or 225/50. I like the 55 because i think it will fill the wheel gap better and according to some research is closer than the 50 to the stock tire size., and im assuming the 50 would be smaller but maybe better performance. I just want to know if the 55 series tire would perform that much worse than the 50 series. I dont want any nasty tire flex but if they perform better than the proxes fz4's , ill be happy.
Oh, and Ive searched and cant get a definite answer.

And if it matters the load rating are - 55's 95W 50's 92W
Thanks Guys, -Rob

you probably want to ask in the tires and wheels section, more experts there.

You don't have to worry about performance as much as you do what tire actually fits your wheel. With you going with a .5 width wheel, there really isn't a tire that will fit it exactly but I believe that of the two the 55 will be a little wider and should in theory offer better handling. But in order to maintain proper spedometer readings you need to stay closer to the overall diameter of the factory tires.

Blah, I used the tire calculator and it turns out you're ~1.7% off with either option , so personally I'd just go with the 50 series. That's just me though because I drive pretty hard. The overall difference in height is plus or minus 0.5" either option, so I wouldn't sweat it too much since you'd probably never even notice. HTH

Yea i went ahead and ordered the 55. i figure that once it starts to wear away it will get closer to stock size, so that will be good. just hope they perform better than what i have now cause my current setup wasnt too bad up until they got low in the tread department and driving in the rain was SCARY .

Thanks for the input. -Rob

225/55 will be closer to spec than 225/50
