good winter tires for a 2000 max GLE?
good winter tires for a 2000 max GLE?
Hey
I still got the stock toyo 215/55/R16 which i heard was a piece of ****.
i am thinking about replacing my tires before the winter but i don't know what brand/model.
i want some good performance tires and also good for the winter
but preferbly under $100 per tire.
i went to an auto shop and they recommended cooper tires but i am unsure of the quality for coopers.
any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I have a 2000 GLE and I just replaced my tires with Continental ContiExtreme Contacts. I've been driving on them for two months and love them. What a difference a decent tire makes! I got the at tire rack for $84 each.

Cooper's rock for winter driving! Give a search in the 5th gen forum and check out responses from the people that have the 17" Cooper Lifeliner SLE Tourings on their SE. What tire are they trying to sell you? As an FYI.. Mastercraft tires are also manufactured by Cooper along with most of the private brand tires that Pep Boys and Sears sell. Cooper also owns the Mickey Thompson Tire line but before they owned it they did the manufacture for MT. The SLEs are quiet, do great in snow and handle great. The ride, at least with the 17"s can be rough on bad roads but if you consider a tire will a taller sided wall (60 or 65 series verses the 50/55 series) you will find an nice balance of handling and ride. FYI... the sidewalls on the SLEs on our Max are MUCH stiffer than the Blowtenzas that came on the car. They are stiff enough that I can place my entire weight (not the 150 lbs is alot) on the tire without the wheel and the sidewalls do not collapse.
Let me know if you have any more questions. My pop has been a Cooper tire dealer for 15 years and worked for them 20 years before that.

As for my suggestions: If you are looking at milage, go for the Lifeliner STE, if you want a balance of performance and milage go with the SLE. If it was my car in the 16" size, SLE all the way!

I got rid of my Toyo's almost 2 years ago on my 00 SE and replaced them with Michelin MXM4's for all season driving and run Michelin Pilot Alpins in the winter. We live in upstste NY and the winter driving has been treacherous. I had much preferred my car in the winter than my wife's 01 Pathfinder until we got rid of her stock Duelers and put Pirelli Scorpions on it...now it rocks!
The MXM4's resist hydroplaning on rainy days so they get my vote for all season
