Michelin Pilot XGT H4?
I'm looking for new tires since the tread on my last set lasted only 25k miles and I someone suggested the Michelin Pilot XGT H4s which look perfect for me since they have pretty good grip in dry conditions but are still good for rain and snow which I need since I spend most of the winter in upstate NY. I don't plan on auto crossing or anything but I drive hard at times. They're going to be put on the standard GLE 15 inch wheels. I need them to last at least 40k miles which will get me through the rest of college. Anyone have any reviews or other recommendations? My price range is around $75-125 per tire.

If you are looking for 40k miles, DO NOT get them. I have them on the daughter's '97 Altima. The first set were down to the wear bars at 25k miles. The replacement set, the same tires, are shot at 22k. Traction is poor after the tread is half gone also. They came with a 50k mile wearout warranty, but I'm still going to find something else for her car. Size is 205/65/15

I was also looking at the Yokohama AVS dB S2 because they were a best seller at tirerack.com but since they're ultra high performance all seasons I figured they wouldn't have as much treadlife. Also looking at the Bridgestone Potenza RE950 Any experiences?

Dunlop SP Sport A2 would be a good choice for grip/tread life.
BfGoodrich Traction T/A seem good too
the yokos you mentioned are a good choice, but you are correct that they wouldn't last quite as long.
You could consider a yokohama tire known as the A550H, it has an identical tread pattern to the AVS but it has either a 40k or 50k tread warranty ( i forget which one)
Dunlop SP Sport 5000 (asymetrical) are also very nice tires.
Bridgestone 950s also very nice, but don't have the greatest snow performance.
Just check the treadwear and decide on what you like. All those tires should perform well for you

I am currently looking for tires for my 2k Max. I checked out ConsumerReports.org, and they did a tire comparison/test dated 11-03 that I am using as a guide for choosing my tires. The Michelin Pilot XGT is rated very good, but it is listed as the 4th best tire. The top 3 ahead of the Michelin Pilot are the Falken Ziex ZE512 #1, Bridgestone Turanza LS-H #2, and the Bridgestone Potenza RE950 #3. There have been many negative comments made by other members on the OEM Potenza's, and I am reluctant to get another set of Potenza's, but perhaps the bad Potenza's are versions other than the Potenza RE950. I am going with the Falken's as they are the best performing on the list, and they are the cheapest as well. I hope this helps. KJ

I'm starting to learn towards the RE950s. Handle well and decent treadlife. I'm only concerned because people have said they don't handle that great in the snow. For those who have them, are they really that bad in the snow? Most of the winter I'm in college, so if its snowing I usually just wont drive in it and its rare that I have someplace I really have to get too if its snowing. I don't want horrible tires though in case I get caught in the snow.
