Studded tires

Thinking of getting 2 new studded winter tires and put them on front and keep running all-seasons in the back. This will be my wheel/tire combo from October through April. Or I should just get winter non-studded tires?

Winter tires come w/o tread wtty...how long do they typically last?

Winter tires vary a lot. Blizzaks dont last long cause they're real soft. 15,000 miles? Probly less, but I'm not exactly sure. Studded tires will give you the best traction tho

Regardless of which you go with, you need to go with ALL FOUR TIRES. I can't stress this enough. It is MORE DANGEROUS to use two winter tires and two all season tires than using all 4 all seasons. Your car's turning and braking dynamics will be TOTALLY F-ed up with just 2 tires on the car. If you attempt to come to a stop and have to change direction for any reason (avoid an animal, person, car, the road curves, etc) you WILL spin out. Your rear tires will have 1/10 the grip of the front tires and your back end will come around. I get really mad when I see these posts. Perhaps you just didn't know, and if that's the case now you do. If you did know and are just trying to save some money, don't. Spend the extra $100 and save your life, and the lives of those around you, and your car.

my budget is $250 for 4 new tires for my 15" steelies, it is either all-seasons or winter (forget about studded, they cost more $).

I just bought a tire and wheel package from tire rack. I down sized to a 16" rim and got the Dunlop Graspic DS-1. Before the Max I had a car that the first winter I put just two snows on the front and was a pretty disapointed in how the car handled, then the next winter spent the money and put all four on. What a difference. Did a lot of reading online and Nealoc187 hit it on the head. You want to do all snows or stay with a good set of 4 all seasons. As far as mileage, you'll get more than 15,000. Don't get me wrong, when it's dry our you'll want to ease up a little but I work with a guy who is on winter #4 with his blizzaks and loves em still.

On Monday I am getting 4 Semperit Sport grip dedicated snows for $74 ea mounted balanced plus tax at Discount Tire. These are 16's so 15 would be cheaper. Made by Conti or Pirelli. H rated also which is a plus for me.
By the way they also do siping for $10 a tire. Which would make all seasons into a quasi snow tire. It cant be stressed enough, to do just the fronts is suicide.
