How big a spacer are you using? Did you get longer studs? Any problems at all?

Do I need longer studs if I can get away with only a 5 mm?

I have a 97, and I want my 17x7.5 Kosei K1's to clear my Wilwoods...

Thanks

I recently read a thread where someone put 6mm spacers on his car and did not replace the studs. This is for a 3rd Gen though, so maybe you could look at your studs and see how much extra you have.

It depends who you ask, but I have read either 7 or 9(?) threads of engagement on the lug nuts is still considered safe...

That was me I am running 6mm spacers in the rear, and did not need longer wheel studs. The guy at the wheel shop told me that as long as the lug nut can make 6 full revolutions on the stud, then it is considered safe. Of course, using any sort of spacers puts an added strain on the wheel hub, as the wheel is pushed farther from the hub. However, it is a calculated risk I am taking (and it helps that my 18" rims and tires are only 4 lbs heavier each than my stock rims and tires).

I thought it was 6-7 turns, I think I can manage that. My wheels/tires are actually slightly lighter than the stocks so I'm not worried.

Thanks guys

Light wheels don't matter. It is the car's weight that exerts pressure on the wheels through the hubs, not the wheel's weight.

Yes, but with 5mm spacers, it won't make a significant difference. It's the guys with 20mm spacers that need to be worried about that stuff.

Get the cheap-o spacers. They will be fine.

my 5mm spacers DO NOT clear my wilwoods, plus I can only get 4 complete turns. Time for a bigger spacer and longer studs.

I know Nismo sells longer studs, but they are $$$, need to find some at a local parts store, we'll see

Why such big spacers? Did you get longer studs yet? Where did you get them from?

I'm running 20mm in my fronts. I needed the longer studs. I think 10mm was about the limit with stock studs.
