tires for my stock max 17s?

You got Michellin Sports? Nice! Yeah at my local tired center (Bjs or Costcos) they gave me a quote of $213.25 (bjs) and $211.15 (costco) PER TIRE!! YOu can basically get two sets of Falkens with that price. =) Then again, BJs offer lifetime tire balancing and rotation. Just something to think about

The sleeper tire for our bastard size 225-50-17 is the Bridgestone Turanza LS-V. NOthing like the Crapenzas that came with the car.
THis is a great tire, quiet, responsive, nice tread and pretty darn good in the snow, I should know I live in Toronto.
THey retail for about 225 per tire Canadian so they should be about 170 U.S. check the reviews on www.tirerack.com #1 for its category
Juat my two cents

THe conti-extrem contact are great tires---however they do not come in the recomended OEM size. THe 235-45-17 is the closest and you need a 7.5 inch rim ours is only 7 inches.
I know alot of people have gone to a 235-45-17 vs the 225-50-17 but my tire would not install them

Many will tell you that the 245 is too wide for the 7" rim but I have had these for 6,000 miles so far without any problems. For the wider tire I just run a little less air pressure so they won't wear out in the middle.

1st... you have to decide what kind of tire you need..
where are you located? do you drive in the snow or very cold temperatures?
will these be your "all season" tires, meaning you'll drive on them all year round, through cold winters and warm summers..
are you an aggressive driver?
if all those apply your best bet is to go with "performance all season" or high, or even ultra high performance all season tires.
then decide on the size
225/50/17 is the OEM size but most owners chose to go with 215/50/17 or 235/45/17 because the selection/choice is so much better...
If you do any kind of all season driving and even if your area doesnt see snow, but you experience really cold temperatures like 20-30 degrees... strictly summer performance tires aren't really that great of a choice because despite having no snow traction, the compound out of which the tire is made is not designed for cold temperatures. what happens is the tire turns almost plasticy and loud in the cold... never mind driving on them in snow.. you'll be sliding all over the place - very dangerous.
I went with Sumitomo HTR+ in 235/45/17 for my stock 17s.. ultra high performance all season tire, only $89/each and great all around all season ratings, even snow...
if i lived somewhere further south, i'd get me a set of Kumhos, nice and cheap, great summer grip.. but too bad i have to deal with snow and 'teen' temperatures.

In need of good tires (couldn't even drive up my driveway on snow) desperately, I ordered some Michelin Pilot A/S. They cost almost twice as much as Falkens but I'm a firm believer on "you get what you pay for" so I'm expecting better results than what I've heard about Falken 512s.
