All Season Tires in San Diego?

Do I really need some all season tires here in San Diego? I need to replace the craptenzas ASAP on my '02 SE and I've been leaning toward some Falken Ziex 512's since everyone has been giving them good reviews. I'm probably going to go with 235/45/17 since they're a lot easier to come by. Anyone getting abnormal wear on 235's? With 235/50/17, would get a little bit better mileage?

It would give better *calculated* (or even trip computer) mileage, due to the increased diameter, but would have little effect on your *real* gas consumption.

Also, if it's mileage you're concerned about, there is also tire mileage to consider, and if you go from the V rated tire to an H rated tire, there are more choices, and you'll generally be able to get a longer treadwear warranty. Few V rated tires even have a treadwear warranty. See the Falken Ziex S/T Z-01. I have about 1000 miles on my set, and I'm very pleased with them.
