17" 350 Z Wheels on '02 Max?

This is probably a dumb question but I thought I'd run it by the group.

I'm in the market for a new set of tires and a friend of mine will give me a really good deal on his stock 17" 350 Z wheels & tires. My only concern is that the rear tires are wider than the front (235/50 R17). This is great for a RWD car but what affect would this have on the Max? What would I do when it came time to rotate the tires? What other concerns should I have?

Good idea? Bad idea?

Anyway, let me know your thoughts on this.

Thanks

You could do it, but it'd be a good idea to go with the same size tires all around on your Max. What size are the front tires on the Z? I'd guess like 215s or so, thats not a huge difference, but maybe get two 235 tires and put them on instead? I'm not exactly sure of negative affects of driving with different size tires on front and back for a FWD car tho...

the only negative is to your pocket-seeing as how you can't rotate the tires

positives that I am aware of doing wider in back even on FWD-better handling-better drifting

I assume the fronts on the 17" Z rims are 225s, although the rears are 235s.
I have the 18s on my Z, and they are 225/245.

Thanks all.

This set has 225/50 on the front and 235/50 on the rear.

I didn't think of the offset issue...that could be another problem.

Any other thoughts?

with NO drop and NO rear passengers you will be 10000% ok.

If you drop the car, you will still be fine, but when u start to add weight to the rear, you will be rubbing

Man your stock SE rims look better than the 17in 7 spokes from the 350Z which look like 04 SL rims. Most guys over at the 350 forums dont like them and prefer the 18 inch rims which look more like your current 17 in SE rims.

Yeah, you're right. I just looked at a pair on my lunch break.

Maybe this isn't such a great idea after all.

I have the 18's Touring on my (lowered) 02. While I feel they look better, I had the same tire size problem. The tires are 225/45 and 245/45. The 245/45's don't work on the rear of my car. Given the offset, I really can't get a wider tire. You are probably better off getting aftermarket wheels where you can get a better offset.

1- FWD Cars do not drifit

2- Increased width in tires does not improve handling. Increasing the width without increase weight will do nothing.

Rear Tires on RWD cars are there to provide better traction when taking off......on a FWD car its pointless.

Now if you are doing it for looks....to each their own.
