Questions about getting wheels

I want to get some wheels for my 95 SE. I'm thinking probably 17" wheels, but I'm not too sure. How do I know what offset I should get? What size tires should I get? Would my car look strange with the wheels and not being lowered?

Will adding this stuff throw off the speedometer? If is does, is there a way to recalibrate it?
Sorry for all the stupid questions.

The size is a tradeoff between looks and cost/comfort. Bigger wheels look better, but ride worse and cost more, as do the tires. If you're all about the bling, go with 18s or 19s. If you want to upgrade wheels, but still want a comfortable ride, go with the 17s. I'd highly recommend getting OEM 17" wheels from a 2k+ Maxima. They look perfect on a 4th gen.

35mm - 45mm is a good range to look for
What size tires should I get?
This depends on what size rims you get, both in diameter and width. Bigger wheels required less sidewall, while the rim width determines how wide a tire you can safely put on it.
Would my car look strange with the wheels and not being lowered?
Probably. It won't look quite as bad with something low-key, like the 2K+ 17s, as with a set of 17" or 18" chromies.

If you select a rim and tire that keeps the overall rolling diameter the same or close to your stock rolling diameter, the speedo will be accuarate. Look at the sticky in the top of this forum for a link to the tire size calculator.

Thanks for the reply. I liked these rims/tires on ebay. The auction ended already, but it looked like a good deal and nice wheels. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2456961690

Hey there fellow Michigander! Just make sure you get good all season tires to go w/ your new rims.

Yep, I have snow tires on my stock rims right now, so I'll probably just keep them, and swap rims when winter rolls around.

Those rims look good, although I'd try and find something 7.5" or wider. This will let you run a little wider tire like 235/45/17, and give you better grip to the road.

How wide are the stock rims? Also what exactly is offset? More grip makes sense with wider tires.

I believe stock 16" 4th gen rims are 6 1/2" wide, and stock 2K+ 17" wheels are 7" wide.

Tire Rack has a good explaination of offset.

Heres the wheels I got. They are 17x7 with a 42mm offset. I can't wait until spring to put them on!
