Wheel Spacers

My new 5Zigen FN01R-C Rims are installed.

On th rear wheels, the rim sits so close to the center of the hub that i cannot fit the caps over the hole.

What wheel spacers should i buy, and what size? I'm thinking 10mm?

Do I need 5x100 or 5x110 bolt pattern?

Thanks!

not sure what size you would need, but the bolt pattern is 5x114

5x114.3

get H&R spacers and depending on your offset is what size you should get but I dont think they make 10mm unless you buy 15mm spacers and have them machined to 10. Talk to Ange about that.

Or.....Buy a set of really long Nismo studs and buy 2 pairs of H&R 5mm spacers and put them together to make 10mm

Thanks for the links.

So what's the diff between the $6.00 "universal" 5/16" I see around and the H&R's?

Save your money. The center caps on my Volks' wouldn't fit over the rear dust caps/grease caps/whatever you want to call them either. If you carefully take a hammer and flatten the edge of the dust cap so it is rounded and not square, the center caps will then fit. At least it did with my Volk's. Just do go overboard with the hammering. You only need to round the edge a little, not the center.

Explain why limsandy. Metal plates are metal plates.

You know nothing about this, I'm sure someone else has a far more intelligent answer.

kwd2kSE - Thanks, I'll look into that!

H&R's are hubcentric. With a non-hubcentric (generic) spacer you have to tighten the **** out of your lug nuts, in order to eliminate vibrations. With a hubcentric spacer, it fits onto the hub perfectly, and you wont have to worry about vibrations.

Soo....

If I wanted a hubcentric 5MM spacer...where would I get it? I am not looking for looks, its to make sure (if needed) to space my current wheels out just a tad to clear my incoming BBK.

I have hubcentric rings on my rims currently...would the spacer give me 5MM more space from the rotor AND take the place of my hubcentric rings?

Enquiring minds want to know!

The web page below says you need longer wheel studs...what is the sizing information on that so I can price this out.

Also, what are the disadvantages of using wheel spacers. I get a feeling sometimes that people dont like them...but I never see any facts as to WHY you would not want to use them.

EDIT: answered my own question as to the hubcentric part.D'OH!

I saw on H&R's website there are 4 different models of spacers. Can anyone recommend a specific model # for a 15mm spacer? By the way, I have 18x8 with 35mm offset in the back and want to push the rear wheels out. would 15mm be ok without rubbing?

Here is how it goes.

From 5 to 20mm, H&R makes DRS type spacers. These are basically hubcentric plates with protruding lip and needs longer studs, but not 5mm one. 5mm one goes over existing hub scout and exisitng wheel studs. With 5mm, you have enough hub scount protrusion to acheive hub-centricity with the wheel hence no protruding lip. 15mm and and 20mm ones come with built in hub scout (protruding lip).

From 25mm and up, H&R makes DRM types spacers. These guys come with their own studs and a set of bolts. These mount on the hub and secured by bolts. You install the wheel on the studs on these spacers. Some times, these types are called "wheel adapters" rather than "wheel spacers". These also come with protruding lip for hub-centricity.

These protrusion not only help hub-centricity but also carry some of the loads in effect making these spacers a "part" of the hub.

Ok

I am thinking of getting the 5MM, but I currently have hubcentric rings. According to HKMax the 5MM do NOT have a hubcentric lip.

So based on that, in theory, I should only have to buy these plates and nothing else and my current rims and hubcentric rings will work fine?

Thoughts?

Thanks
Colonel

Galo who is on the 5th gen forum got some H&R spacers, I think 20mm, and didn't like the fit. He went to a machine shop and had 12mm spacers made and they fit his car much better (look good too). I think I have the story straight. Anyway, PM him or open a thread on the 5th gen forum. Don't know if they would fit a 4th gen, but he can give you some good information.

You know you can make a hubcentric 7.5mm spacer yourself. I'm not sure how much the H&R spacers are, but I made four 7.5mm spacers out of old brake rotors. Have a shop cut off the hats and voila you have a hubcentric spacer.

One thing to remember, you want hub centricity for both the spacer AND the wheel. If you lose the hub scout by doing this you will lose the hub centricity for the wheel. I'm assuming you don't.

I have 5mm H&Rs all around and they do come with their own longer wheel studs and you should install.

No spacer should be installed without longer wheel studs or else your lug nuts are not grabbing the correct ammount of stud threads since the spacer takes up space, the longer studs make up for the loss of threads

My H&R 5mms have a countersunk portion around the hub centric area and I can still slide my plastic hub centric rings over them just fine.

You wouldnt happen to have a pic of them mounted rim off and what your hubcententric rings look like?
