Who has Turanza EL42 Stock (215/55/17)
#3
I had them for 33,000 miles and was disappointed in them.
If you look at this tire on the Tirerack.com site, you will see that they are very, very poorly reviewed. Under the "would you buy again" question, it scored a "definitely not".
For easy going driving, in dry pavement, they are adequate at best. They held a balance well, and wore evenly. The treadlife was as expected. They never lost an abnormal amount of air. These are the only positives.
The moment a drop of rain hit the road, the tires would lose a scary amount of traction. In an emergency manuver even on dry pavement, the tires wouldn't be a good friend. It doesn't rain much where I live, but I did get stuck in a carwash with these tires on the wet concrete. It just sat there and spinned. Very embarrassing.
Trouble is, there isn't a lot of choices in our stock rim size that are in spec. The Bridgestone Potenza RE92, which are on a lotta Max's, are a bit better then the EL42's, but not by much according to this site and the reviews on Tirerack. One great choice is the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, but are expensive. A lot of guys on this site like the Falken 512's, which are more reasonably priced.
