Are there any lightweight tires?

Seeing that the average tires are about 25 lbs, are there any lightweight tires to match with lightweight wheels?

I saw a review somewhere of different tire brands and weights. Assuming all tires the same size, the Kumhos were heavyweights (28lbs) and either the Falkens or Toyos were the lightweights (22lbs). It would be very good information to have. When I get new tires, I will weigh them before they are installed. Same for the wheel.

The last time I looked into this, I found that some models by the same manufacturer were heavier, while some were lighter. Kumho 712 was heavy, but the MX and Toyo T1-S was light. The Falkens I saw were "average" though I don't know about the Azenis. Yokohama was a tad on the heavy side IIRC.

I have no proof to back it up, but I heard that Pirelli P7000 Supersports are extremely light tires. They were on my wheels when I bought them from the guy who had them put on, and he claimed he installed them because they are light. It is an all-season tire though. Best thing to do is to call tirerack and ask them for tire weight quotes.

Not really.... I found that the P7000 is quite heavy. Anyway, I found a thread in the Mini Cooper forum (Google is your friend) that lists tire weights.

It can also be found at: http://www.miata.net/faq/tire_weights.html

I've got a few pages/links too but pretty much usual sizes run 19-27lbs per tire. Z and W rated summer only tires typically are the heaviest because of the steel belts everywhere. V, H, snow, etc. rated tend to be lighter. Finally slicks are the lighest as they use the tube instead of steel belts at all.

The toyo t1-s is the 2nd lightest tire on the market, a pirelli tire, either the 6000 or 9000 I can't recall which, is the lightest. The toyo however is a much better tire in my opinion. I would go with T1-S. Many tire manufacturers list tire weight on their websites.

When purchasing my Falken ziex ze 512s, they were several pounds less than just about everything else in the same size category.. at least compared to the others offered on the website. Might not be the lightest, but they are light.. (cheap too)
