What is the Best tire size for 17 x 8 rims 40mm offset? Tire rack recomends 215/50/17 is there not a bigger or should I say better tire size to run on this size rim? Can we run 245/45/17 tires safely on 5th gen max with this size rim?

By the tire size and questions your asking, I'm assuming you're asking about the OEM wheels. Those are 17x7 and widest I've seen that guys are using are 235/45/17's. OEM size is 225/50/17.

Actually no......

No they are not factory wheels. They are 17 x 8 40mm offset 5x114.3 lug pattern by Mille Miglea.

I would think that you would be able to use 245/40/17 or even 245/35/17's in that case.

I have 17 by 7.5 and can safely run 245/45/17 and so can you. Plug your rim size into the calculator i the link below to get a good idea of what you could run. Their used to be a great Tire and Rim Association chart available but the link doesn't work any more.

Yep, limsandy is right...I just found some wheel/tire packages where 17x8's come with 235's. Thanks for the correction.

anyone tried that size on 18's?? we have bad roads here in indy. very bumpy. i am getting some 18's, but do not want 35 or 40. do you think it would rub with 45's?? i have 55's on stock 17's. helps with the wheel gap too. but i am lowering it when i get wheels...

I dont know...... you can get away with it, but I highly recommend 235/245/255 with 40 series size for 18" wheels.
