Winter/all season tires

Winter/all season tires
I go to college up in NH so next year I will need snow/all season tires. I have a 2001 Max SE with the 17" stock wheels and tires, which suck in snow, and rain for that matter. Next winter i just want to get some cheap steelies and snow tires(just for the winter). Is it possibe to put 16" wheels on my max. Is there anything I have to do. Or will it **** up my cars comp and speedometer. I want to go to 16" in the winter cause it will cost me less. Thanks for your input. Is there any snow, all season tires you recommend for winter driving?

I'm pretty sure 16" wheels came stock on 2000-2001 GXEs and optional on GLEs. If you use 215/55/16 tires, your speedo will be off by 2.1% (when your speedo reads 60mph you'll be going 58.7mph). 205/60/16's will be off by only 0.7%, but won't look too sporty (big sidewall). As for snow tires, I heard Bridgestone Blizzaks are the best but are pricey.
