Michelin Pilot Sport A/S seem narrow?

I just replaced my RE92 (finally) with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's (225/50/17). I like them although I think one is slightly out of balance, but from the front view, they sure don't look very wide.

Anyone else thought this?

I dont remember how the Pilot A/S's looked against the RE92 but.....I replaced the rough, noisy Pilots with the quiet, butter-smooth (and new) Turanza LS-V's and indeed, the Turanzas are much larger -width as well as diameter- than the Pilots.

So much so that I think one could install 215/50's instead of 225/50s and save even more money as compared to the Pilots

Yep, the Pilot A/S do have a very narrow tread for the size of the tire. The overall section width is OK, its just the amount of tread that is put to the ground. For example: my previous tires were Bridgestone S-03's, in 245/45/17. They had just a touch over 9" of tread on the ground. My current Pilot Sport A/S, in 255/40/18, has a little over 7.5" of tread on the ground. Both measured by running through water and then measuring the footprint left on the adjoining dry pavement.
