Kumho Ecsta ASX

I'm looking for replacement tires for my 97 SE. I searched on tirerack and the Kumho Ecsta ASX are pretty cheap and have gotten very good reviews. Anyone have any opinions on these?
Im also looking at Dunlop A2's and Continental ContiextremeContacts which are about $20 more per tire.

I know its been covered before but I would also like some input on stock size tires vs. 225/50-16.

The Kumho ASX is marketed as "all season xtreme" so i would assume they would be adequate for snow.

I'm gonna give the Kumhos a shot but I haven't decided on what size. The stock size, 215/55-16, and 225/50-16 are both $73 per tire. Help me out guys.

Well, if u ask any experienced orger you will understand that the kumho's:

1.) are crap in the rain
2.) will perform poorly under weather under 50 degrees

therefore, many (including I) use them as summer tires only.

Why do u think they are so cheap? If you dont believe me, get them and see for yourself.

i also have extreme conti's on my other set of rims and they are excellent, but are a bit "soft". The tread design isnt something to be crazy about either

I think you're really missing something if you're rating all Kumho tires together. I have the 716 HP4s right now. They are definitely an all season tire!!! They do very well in rain and snow both. I had to drive through one of Nebraska's worst winters last year, and my Kumhos never got stuck! However, they have a pretty soft side wall, and I don't consider them very "high performance."
Now, of course, the MX, 711 and 712s are a different story. These are marketed and sold as summer, or 3-season tires, so why would you expect them to do well in cold weather, or snow?

I was at a performance driving school this weekend and I was asking my instructor about tire pressure and mentioned that I had crappy Kumho's. He stopped me and explained that Kumho is a very up and coming company. They are starting to do very well on the race track and this instructor(19+ years of racing experience) has them on all three of his cars. So, my opinion of Kumho has changed drammatically. And they're so d@mn cheap!
