16" or 17"

I'm going to be getting new rims and tires for my 01 max, GXE.. replacing the crappy hubcap-looking OEM rims, which I think are 16". I'd like to get some 17's since they look better, but I don't want to if its going to make the ride rougher, or cause my car to look funny without a drop (because I don't want to drop it). Will I notice a rougher ride with 17's? Will it need a drop to not look retarded?

Thanks for any input.

you probably won't notice a stiffer ride with the 17's it will only decrease the side wall alittle bit

Thousands of Max's are riding on factory 17's without any rough ride. In fact, many will opine that the ride is still on the soft side (mostly due to springs). I have the factory 215/55-17 on GLE alloys and the sidewall give is a little much. I would probably go to a 50 series. The 5.5 SE's run a 225/50-17, but if you want to hide a little more of that fender opening, a 235/50-17 may work as well. For what it's worth, I am looking at even going to a 245/45-17, but I need to find some wide-enough rims that aren't too heavy. Hope this helps.
