Tire question

i have a 02 GLE and have 215-55-17 on it now and was thinking about going with a 225-55-17 to get more of a selection of tires. Would I have any problems with rubbing with a tire of that size. I am also thinking about changing speed rating froma V to a HR to give a better ride with less road noise. The car is driven by my wife who rarely drives over 80 and doesn't drive curves that hard. Does anyone see any problems with what I am thinking?

I've read on Tirerack's tire reviews about a Max putting on 225/55-17's to keep a taller sidewall to keep a smoother ride. I have an 02 GLE with HR rated Bridestone EL42's 215's, and I think the ride is a little too compliant. Alot of float over bumps while in a turn (just freeway interchanges, not even anything crazy). Is your V-rated 215/55 too stiff even for your wife's tastes??

Don't know if there are any decent HR-rated 225/50's. If you go with 225/55's, you may want to stick with a V rating. Dropping to an H-rating AND increasing sidewall may be a little much. But that's just my .02......

The main thing that she is complaing about is the road noise which could be due to the wear of the tires, The main thing I am complaining about is the price of these tires. Don't get me wrong I like my max but it isn't a vette. I probally will end up going with a 215-55-17 b/c price wise there isn't much difference in a 50 or 55 series tire
