17 in wheel question

Can anyone tell me if I can fit a set of 17x8 rims with a 24mm offset in my '95 ride?
Thanks

I think that offset is too small...IIRC, the offset needs to be between 35 and 45.
anyone confirm this?

also, you should go to TorontoMaxima.com --> we've got over 670 members!!!

cheers,

Thanks for the advice.... I found a really good deal on these rims and I'm trying to see if I can somehow get away with it...

Cheers

cool.
I would wait for someone to confirm what I've said.
also, at the very top is an offset calculator -- it could be of some help too.

good luck,

For reference, the factory offsets on 5.5 17x7's are 40mm for 215/55-17 tires, and 45mm for 225/50-17. Seems like most people online here get between 35-40 mm offsets for wider tires/wheels. The reduced offset pushes the tire outwards. With 24mm, you are pushing out the wheels almost an inch on each side! This may:

1) cause the tires to stick well outside the fender well, which may be illegal (don't know about Canadian laws),

2) force the outer corner of the tire to rub on the inside of the fenderwheels (front and/or back) went turning lock-to-lock due to the geometry,

3) increase torque steer as the wheels are now father apart, which accentuates the difference in torque transfer (just a physics point of view... I could be mistaken though).

Remember, a "good deal" is only good if you can use the product... Don't know how many cars out there use +24mm offsets, but at least in the Maxima/Altima world, you probably won't see it.
