Anybody running 225/55/16 on stock wheels?
Anybody running 225/55/16 on stock wheels?
Specifically, Bridgestone Potenza 950's. I've been running 225/50/16 950's and love 'em, other than they don't look great IMHO. I'd like something that retains the 225 treadwidth but adds a little sidewall height and I'd like to know if anyone is running the 950's in 225/55/16 on a stock 16" wheel with no clearance problems.
TIA

i've got some potenza's in 215/55/16, and i think they look great, but i absolutely hate how they pick up so many damn rocks in the tread!
Well, of course the 215/55-16's are fine....they are the stock ride.
I don't see why that new size should be a problem. I mean, they are not much wider, but just a little. Try them out and see. I am sure they will fit.
I have talked to people about getting some 225/45-16's and they say they will fit, but will look a little bulgy on the stock wheel because of the width. However, the tires I want next come only in this size or much narrower, and I am going to get them at the end of the summer.

Tx peeps, I really appreciate the feedback.
Just to clarify...
The stock shoes are 215/55/16, 98 se
I am currently running 225/50/15, they are a little wider (225 vs 215) but have a shorter sidewall height as it turns out (.50*225 < .55*215, or 112.5 vs 118.25).
I would like to retain the handling offered by the 225 width but want to fill the wheel wells a little bit more. So, I need to be certain that 225/ -> 55 <- / 16 will work without clearence problems, especially around the strut in the front, preferably confirmed by someone actually running the potenza 950's in this size now or in the past. It would also be important to know whether you're running stock suspension height or is the car lowered.
And agreed on the "pick up the rocks" thing. The 950s grab *everything* up off the ground. Caused me to buy mud flaps because the paint was wearing off the rockers. And, if you think the 950's are bad, you ain't seen NOTHIN until you try the D60 A2's from Dunlop. Yeesh! They're WORSE!!
Thanks again!!
