Used 17" tires, would you consider it?
Considering that the price is about 1/5th that of a brand new set, it makes sense as a temporary solution until one has $500+ to throw out (for a set of 17").
I'm riding on 15" BF Goodrich T/A's right now that are absolutely terrible on anything wet (had a close call with a curb going super slow once). Got a set of 17" 215/55-R17 wheels with like-new tires. I put them on, clearances fit (I'm not lowered) but the car rides higher than stock and it feels a bit floaty (probably because of the higher center of gravity) so I put the 15" sawblades back on.
Local tire shop has 215/50-R17 used tires, they don't have a matching set but they have 2 each of Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 and Goodyear Eagle RSA.
1) Would you consider it for $100 + tax, mounted and balanced. Probably looking to keep it for about 1 year +.
2) What is the minimum thread you'd want to have adequate wet traction?
3) Would you mix and match? The ratings on those tires are average on tirerack.
My front strut mounts are shot right now, and front struts are also leaking so I am planning to jump on the Illumina-Tokico set soon. Just need to find someone local who can put it in for 2 cases of beer
