Hey guys, I need some help.

Can you guys recommend a really good tire that has excellent wet traction for my 2000 Nissan Maxima? I currently have YOKOHAMA AVID V4 tires which I bought last year. The problem is that the wet traction is really horrible on the tires esp. when I am going uphill from a complete stop position. I am really looking for some good tires that will not have this problem.

Any recommendations and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Also, please advise as to where I should buy these tires from......... online or from local tire stores.

Thanks a bunch.

This won't be popular with the performance crowd....I got Michelin MXV 4 Energy. Expensive, but quiet, durable, great all season tires. I just got off Yoko's as well, great dry but not so fun wet. It's all in what you want--I luckily have a Corvette to play with in the dry and at the track, so I want the Max to handle rain and snow on a daily basis with no thought whatsoever.

Kumho's are GREAT tires. Unfortunately I don't think you can get the Ecsta MX in our sizes, but would suspect the lesser performance tires are also great bang for the buck.

HTH.

Thank you both so much for your help.

I am looking into Kumho Ecsta ASX as well as Falken Ziex ZE-512 tires. Both seem to have good reviews but it appears that Falken Ziex ZE-512 is hard to find and mostly out of stock at most vendors.

Any thoughts on these two tires?

Of course the Falkens are out of stock, but you only hear this from the guys with 17". You're looking for a different size, which to me shouldn't be so difficult to find.

Get the Falkens. Great all-season tires. It rains here all the time and I've never had any issues.

I have both the stock 16" five-spoke and 17" six-spoke wheels for the '00/'01 Maxima.

For the 16" wheels, I have the Bridgestone Potenza RE950. It gets very good reviews for a relatively inexpensive all-season tire. Great wet traction. I got these tires at Wheel Works and they matched TireRack.com's price. I believe Costco sells this one now too.

For the 17" wheels, I have the Falken Ziex 512. Again, it gets good reviews. I got these at Discount Tire Co. / America's Tire Co.

Peace.

I am looking for a set of new tires as well... Currently, I have Kumho 712 and it is great both on dry and wet pavement, extremely horrible (scary) in snow. That's why I am looking for a repalcement.

I checked online and came up with two options: Continental ContiExtremeContact & BFGoodrich Traction T/A H. Both have good review on Tirerack. Too bad I can't compare them with the Falken Ziex 512 as Tirerack doesn't carry them.

I will probably get the Traction T/A as it is available at Costco, which will endup cheaper as Costco has lifetime rotation and balance with less cost.

I just started looking for tires. I only have 22k miles and my original Toyos (P215/55R16) have almost no tread left, I was surprised to have to replace them already. I was looking at a local store Merchant's tire and they have the Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus, and Energy MXV4. I am confused by the pricing because looking at the specs on the michelin web site it looks like the "Plus" is better but it is around $40 cheaper. Did you get the plus? Was it the 215/55R16 93H? I want reliability in winter and rain but also want fairly good performance and cornering.

Also from this store's inventory they have Goodyear Eagle LS, Yokohama AS430, Conti Touring Contact CH95, Pirelli P6 Four Seasons and some cheaper ones. I don't think I want Toyo Proxes again. Any recommendations from these?

I just went for a set of the BFGoodrich Traction T/A's... They were top of their 'class' on tirerack.com... $90 each

They should be with me in the next couple of days, so I'll let you know how they are...
