Are studs allowed in your area?

I have used three types, Bridgestone Blizzak, Michelin X and Nordic icetrac.
I fish-tailed and wiped out once with the Blizzak, road condition was snow drift on top of ice. I haven't had any problems with the Michelin, I am trying the Nordic icetrac this year. Not quite deep winter yet, but so far so good with its handling.
On really bad winter days I drive my F-250.

I haven't ever had snow tires myself, but my mom's family is from northern Minnesota, and they all roll Nokians (sp?). Nokian has a newer model (I think WR maybe?) that is reported to maitain quite a bit of performance/stability compared other snow tires. Some people even use them year round. Good luck.

I use them year round, they exhibit great wear qualities & handle snow/slush/rain with ease. They may give up some ice traction to pure snow tires, but don't wear at a crazy rate when the road is dry either.

You get Nordic Icetrac in Canada, they are made by the Uniroyal-Goodrich division of Michelin.

I Have used blizzaks with no problems for the last 3 yrs. I didnt think they would make much difference but wow did they. They made a huge difference. Especially just getting out of my driveway.

Since you're not volunteering any information, it's hard to make a suggestion because not all winter tires are alike, and there is no one "best" winter tire.

How bad are the winters and how much snow or ice do you expect to deal with?

Bman makes an excellent point. There is no one "best" snow tire. Just like there is no "best" all season, or performance tire. Its all a matter of what qualitites are important to you.

Exactly - I'm in Canada and where I am, it is mild winters (for me) with some really heavy stuff at times. My Dad favoured Hakkapalita's on his Protege, but I didn't like them much, very noisy too. I personally drive with Pirelli Winter Sport 200 on my 99 Max and these tires rock, I've never felt safer. But its personal opinion too, so keep getting opinions.

Can't go wrong with Bridgestones. I'll be using Blizzak WS-50s in Saint Louis.
