Nokian 225/55/17 ok to replace 225/50/17?

I'm new to the forum and this is my first posting.

I'm looking to replace the original Potenzas (49K) on my 2002 SE with good all weather tires. A tire dealer recommended Nokians for really good traction, even though they are 225 55 17 - not the stock 225 50 17 size. Any information you can give me on using the Nokians in that size would be appreciated. Thanx

I wouldn't get those for 2 reasons: 1st because 225/55/17 would offset your speedo by 3.4% and 2nd of all I've never heard of Nokians (don't think they're a popular brand). If I had to to make a choice, I'd either buy the Falken Ziex ZE-512 or or Nitto NT450, both in 225/50/17 since they are very good for the price.

Thanx for the info.
The Nokians are made by Nokia - Nokia was making tires long before they made cell phones. They are made in Finland. What they call an "all weather" tire is what we consider a snow tire. I'm told that traction is excellent, but they are expensive.

I've heard of Nokian tires. At one point, I was looking at their winter tires which have much better traction than the Blizzaks.

Nokian Tires

I have used the Nokian Hakapaleta snow tires for a couple of years on my 02 Max in Ontario, Canada. They are an unbelievable snow tire. They are regarded as one of the best dedicated winter tires you can get. I used the 16" on steelies for the winter. I have no experience with their all seaons though I have heard of good reports. I was all upset cause I couldn't get Nokias in the correct diameter for my new G35X, I had to settle for Blizzak WS-50's.

great tire!

the nokians are a great tire. go with 235/45/17... they should make your nokians in that size... mine were... however take them off in the summer!! they will get eaten alive on summer roads.... you will not be dissapointed.. if you want some thing good all year goto tirerack and check out the 235/45/17 Conti Extreme Contacts... great tire all year with a 400treadlife rating.. handle a million times better in the summer than the nokians.. i have not had to much snow experiance n them yet.. but they were rated well for snow traction, and they are great in the rain!!
