1999 Nissan Maxima airbags
1999 Nissan Maxima airbags
Sorry I don't know where else to post this:
Recently my airbag light kept blinking on and off and the manual said I needed to have this checked by a dealer. The dealer charged me $ 90.00 for a diagnostic scan and said there was a defective airbag and they had to order the airbag. I was also told that none of the airbags would deploy as that was a safety feature when one was defective (to avoid an accidental deployment of any of the airbags).
In the meantime, the airbag light has stopped blinking and it has returned to the previous manner of coming on: the airbag light comes on when I first start the car and then shuts off after a few seconds.
I called the service department back and was told they could not tell what that meant without seeing the car and running another diagnostic scan. I asked how another scan would help as the first scan said there was a problem. How could I now rely on a second scan and trust that that was correct?
If my airbag light has resumed coming on and going off normally, can I assume there is nothing wrong with my airbags? I do not want to pay $ 500.00 for an airbag if I am not sure it is defective but more importantly I do not have confidence in what I am being told. Is there any way I can tell if the airbags are defective without running another scan. How can I be sure if an airbag is or is not defective? Any suggestions/comment? Thank you.
