225/55/17 okay for stock 17'' wheels?

I need some winter tires for my stock '02 wheels. I want some Dunlop Winter Sport M3's but they're sold out everywhere for 225/50's. Will it make a difference if I get the 225/55's? Seems like it should be a big deal...Thanks

Your speedo will be slightly off. But as long as you're not lowered you shouldn't have any problems.

Handling will probably degrade slightly...but you're not exactly looking for that when you go to winter tires anyway.

Snow tire dont need to be wide, indeed, in the Scandinavian countries, people come down in width dramatically for snow tires because narrower tires crunch thru the snow better than wide tires.

With that in mind, 215/55's would be much better than the stock 225/55s.....you will perform better in the snow, save some $$$ and not throw your speedo off as much
