it's black/gunmetal. Also unless you plan on leaving a silver lip masking tape won't do you jack. It won't stick to the tire so you'll need to mask it off using the lip.

I sprayed the aircraft stripper on some chipped chrome rims i have, but it didn't do anything. Is there a product to strip the chrome?

I dis-mounted my rims and tires when I painted mine. I wet sanded 400 grit first, then up to 600 grit. Then, I had one of our painters at our shop lay down his sealer, base, and then clear. We then baked it in the booth. The color is actually from a Mustang that we had painted earlier that week. Lucky to work at a body shop.

Dave: the blue 3M masking tape sticks to tires, trust me

Stripper will not remove chrome, no f'in way!

Again I say stripping the old paint off is not needed.

You wouldn't need to strip off the old paint. All you're really trying to do is to scuff the surface so that the base will have something to stick to.

Right now, I'm using stock beat up 3rd gen wheels for winter. Pitting and corroding and some curb rash. Can I still get these painted? How? Step by step process? Pics coming
The pitting. Will the aircraft stripper work?

my point exactly!

The 3rd gen wheels are clear coated. they just need to be sanded and well cleaned. then just paint them with what ever you like.

How do I remove the clear coat? Any solution? Aircraft stripper? Or just sand paper? Which grit?

Yeah, but it's not just a matter of taking the clear coat off. The idea behind doing this is to scratch/scuff the surface so that the paint has something to adhere to. I went with 400 grit first and then moved up to 600 grit (wet sanding of course ). I then cleaned and degreased the wheels, masked where ever needed to, and then laid down the sealer, then the base coat, and then the clear. I also baked it in our paint booth, but that's not really necessary.
