Has anybody here tried these tires yet? I'm looking to buy a set (235/40/18). I've read good reviews about both of these tires on Tirerack.com and 1010tires.com. Bridgestone makes Fuzion, so it's not like they're a no name tire. Both tires are about the same price, but the Kumho has a longer tread life. Anybody care to share any input.

The ASX's are all seasons tires. I don't think you need them where you live. Just get some high performance summer tires. Most will be good for dry and wet traction.
Tirerack.com will have more to choose from and be cheaper.

One of the main reasons is that the all season tires are typically cheaper and last longer than the summer high performance type tires.

Yea they last longer but wont give you as much grip. But the main reason is you don't need all seasons tires. YOU LIVE IN HAWAII!Originally Posted by BRAN808

I don't really need all season tires either. But, I just ordered a set of ASXs for two specific reasons: asymetrical tread & 420 treadwear rating.
They still have a W speed rating, so the sacrifice in overall grip should be minimal compared to a summer tire.

Please let me know how they are. I'm trying to debate which tires to get. The specs look good on the ASX's, as well as the reviews on Tirerack. What other tires were you debating between?Originally Posted by mzmtg

Another set of Kumho 712s (which I was happy with) or Kumho KH11. I'm both cheap and broke, so to Kumho I go...Originally Posted by BRAN808

I just had a set of Kumho ASX 235-45-17s installed on my car. Its raining in SoCal right now. Wet performance is more important to me than dry performance because you can easily lose control driving straight in rainy weather, even at reduced speeds. Comparing only Kumhos I've had (711 and 712), so far I can say in terms of wet weather performance hydroplaning resistance ASX is the best out of all 3 (ASX>712>711). Quietness (ASX>711>712). Steering feel slots between the other 2 (712>ASX>711).
The tires dont seem to be bothered that much by sitting puddles on the freeway even at 70mph. I pretty much plow right through without the steering wheel jerking much if at all. With only one side hitting a puddle its the same too; I can still track straight. Very confidence-inspiring.
I usually keep my tire pressure set at 33F/30R. It feels like a softer tire compared to the 712 and 711. A bit more sidewall flex.
The suspension's the same during my previous sets of tires. However I have just installed Energy Suspension lower control arm bushings so its going to affect how the tire feels and it will be difficult in comparing dry weather performance against the past 2 sets of tires.

Thanks for the feedback. I feel the same way about the wet weather handling. I can't stand when you just go through a puddle of water on the freeway, and the wheel just loses it. I'll try and see if I can get more responses before I decide. Thanks again.Originally Posted by VeeQueue

i like the ASXs. my dad has them on his WRX. they're cheap and far superior to the original RE-92's. for some reason, japanese car makes like the RE-92 for the usdm which is a crappy tire in terms of performance. i just ordered a set of ASXs for my sister's 2.5RS as well. overall, the shoulders are stiffer due to the Z rated design than the RE-92s. initial turn is much better! tread is pretty sticky in the dry. no reported hydroplaning in the rain. wet performance is comparable to my max's dunlop A2s (which i believe is an awesome all season tire in the rain). the ASXs are quiet on the highway as well. in the snow, the ASX isn't so hot, but what all season tire is? it's definately my driving because i was hustling it around practicing feint motion and left foot braking in the WRX at 4:30am in the snow lol. if you drive sanely, they're fine in the snow. overall, it's the next best value in all season performance, which is why both our subes will be driving on them.
Got my ASXs on today. I've only put a few miles on them, but I can tell I will like them. They are much smoother and quieter than the 712s, but still have sharp handling.
I'll need a few hundred break in miles before I can really push them.

Cool, I'm glad to hear that you like them. I'm still debating...............too many choices.Originally Posted by mzmtg

I know yeah?! I've read nothing but good reviews about these on Tirerack and 1010tires. A lot of people who submitted those reviews said they were one of the best tires they've used. I'm working on a deal for a different set of tires from one of my friends, but if that falls through, it's back to the drawing boards. Keep the input coming!!! Thanks guys.Originally Posted by xtantmaxima

I did a lot of searching on TireRack for summer tires, and I looked at both the ASX and Fuzion ZRi. The ZRi had very good reviews, and I plan on ordering a set of them in about a month (225/55W/16).
Took my ASXs out on the road course yesterday after flatspotting my Toyo RA-1s down to the cords...
after a few laps of tooling around at 70% to feel the tires out on the track, I opened it up, and was within 1 sec of my time on slicks!
They chunked just a little bit on the edges of the tread blocks, but I'm not surprised.. I drove them VERY hard for a full 20 min session, and 75-80% for another session. so they had 45 min on the track- so about 25 laps on the track at 2.9 miles long, and they held up amazingly well for all-season street tires.
So ummm, yeah.. I'll keep the ASX, thanks.

Honestly, how did they compare to the Falkens you've tried before? I know you didn't have too many good experiences, but traction and wet weather........any comparisons? I'm looking for real world , every day use, since I don't auto-X. Thanks again.Originally Posted by Matt93SE
