Bump on Tire?

well its been raining all week here in L.A. and today i ran over a pot hole pretty hard. my rim looks fine but i notice a bump on the tire wall. maybe 1 inch by 1 inch in size. closer to the outside of the tire then the rim. i tried taking some air out and pumping it back in but its still there.

i drove around and no air seems to be leaking. its the front left and there factory tires. do you guys think i need to get a new tire or will the tire be ok with the bump? thanks.

If you got the care a few years ago, I'm assuming you have put quite a few miles on those tires, might as well just get a new set IMO. Its probably not worth it to replace a single tire when the other 3 are nearing their end.

Replace that tire. The more you drive, bigger it will get and who knows? It might even pop while you are traveling at high speed. Not safe at all.

The "bump" is known as a bubble in the sidewall, caused by internal damage. Replace the tire as soon as possible because there is a risk of sudden tire failure.

@browne,

I have to agree with everyone else on replacing the tire. I had a "bubble" on my stockies and it went BOOM on the 110 Northbound heading into downtown L.A. a few months ago. Fortunately for me, I didn't lose control of the car and was able to safely get out of the traffic lanes, but it was no fun being late to work and having to change the tire on the side of the freeway in morning rush-hour traffic. Since your tires are the only thing on your car that makes contact with the road, do yourself a favor and get good ones - you won't regret it!

thanks for the replies... im planning on getting a used tire to replace it. ill get 4 new ones later after more thread wear. no point in getting just 1 new while the rest has about 60% thread left. plus i got no money to spare right now.

What kind of yokos if you don't mind my asking? I know you bought the car with them on, but how many miles have you put on them and what's your driving style?
