Question about spacers

i just recently acquired some 18" 2k4 SE wheels with tire sizes 245/45/18 all around and i own a 97.. i wanted to stick the rear wheels out a little and am not sure which spacers to buy or if any will fit with these wheels on my car.. i found two on ebay one 15 mm and another thats 20 mm.. also one last thing, if i do go with the spacers would i have to cut off a portion of the stock studs or is it just a plug and play item??

and yes i know that the staggered look on a fwd car is .. tia

Don't you mean buy longer studs? The spacer fits between the hub and the wheel effectively making the hub several mm farther away then it used to be, thus shortening the number of threads by that same amount of mm. You will need to buy longer studs so you have enough threads to tighten the wheel.
