Anyone heard of Nokian tires ??

I am being offered this tire in a tire/wheel package and I had never heard of them. Supposedly offers good wet/dry traction and runs quiet. They say that it is very popular in Europe. Anyone ... ?? Thanks.

I've heard of Nokian snow tires, and supposedly they are ridiculously good. I don't know anything about their other types of tires. They are Scandanavian, and owned by the same company that makes Nokia phones.

Thanks for the answer. I'm getting all season. Maybe I'll pick up a few more answers here. They look pretty nice. Price is maybe a little above average, but not supper high.

You should call up Tire Factory and ask those guys. I was in the local Tire Factory the other day and the manager was really impressed with the snow tires. I am sure they have information about the all seasons, too. Like Mizeree said, the snow tires are supposed to be outstanding.

Not sure which Nokian model you're getting with that package, but if they're "all-season" then it might be the Nokian WR, which they call an "all-weather" tire because of its winter tire certification.

I have these (stock size) and got to drive it in the snow for only a few days. On hardpacked snow they seemed fairly responsive to steering inputs and braking was impressive. In the better weather we have now, they are quiet and so far don't see any worse in handling than the "touring" tires they replaced. Haven't had a chance to push them yet, because it's been damp. As said, they weren't really cheap, bargain tires, but they weren't as expensive as I expected either. About "average" for decent tires in my estimation. I use these as my winter set BTW.

I believe the "legendary" Nokian model is (was) the winter Hakkapeliitta Q model, now replaced by the Hakkapeliitta 2.

Thanks. Tire Factory was where I was going to get them. I was just trying to make sure that the guy I talked to wasn't blowing smoke because I hadn't heard of them.

I have the Nokian Hakkapeletta's which are considered an all-season tire and this is my second winter using them in Canada. They are awesome snow tires and dry weather tires when the roads are bad and the temperature drops. The NRW's are also good winter tires althought I'm not sure how good there other tires are.

I'd say they're a really good tire brand.

Fellas - I've driven over 15 Upstate NY winters and will swear by the Hakkapillitas. I picked up a set of four of the Q's for only $200 used and they are AWESOME. I prefer them over the wife's 4x4. I didn't know they sold All-seasons.

Nokian

They are made in Finland. They do make summer tires and all seasons. The new one is the WR. There has been some confusion because it is an all season WITH the severe weather rating. That is it will also function as a snow tire. The WR also has great wet traction and resistance to hydroplaning. The WR is available in H speed rating. I think it is A traction and A heat rated. I was thinking of replacing the Goodyear RSA we now have with a set of Nokian WRs. My I30 appears to have been made w/o traction control. There is no switch on the dash to turn it off or on.
Nokians would be a big improvement.

Nah they do cross country too. They are mainly for free riding and downhill, but they do have a few cross country tires.

I'm in EG. I actually designed a couple of roadway improvements and traffic signals up there in CP. We looked to move to CP a few years back but I refuse to drive the Northway everyday. Much quieter over here in Rensselaer County.

I did the extension of Maxwell Drive Extension and the widening project behind Clifton Park Center when Boscov's came in plus the widening and signal for Lowes. A colleague of mine did the signal on Sitterly coming out of the HD plaza too. Our small part to screw the average driver into passing through a few more signals everyday. The big push is towards roundabouts now though. We're looking at building a few of them in the area including Glens Falls and Bethlehem. Nothing on the horizon in CP yet.
