Looking for new rims...chrome or not to chrome ?

Hi guys, have not posted in a while but now I got a slight problem.

I got chrome dipped replica Nissan rims for my '02 SE. Living in NJ the rims have taken a beating the last two years with the snow and salt. In the corners they are pitted badly and chipped here and there b/c I drive a lot of highway miles to and from work.

I have 45k miles and will need tires probably this year so I was thinking about new rims too (17" or 18"). Do all chrome rims potentially go bad in the road snow and salt??? I also dont want anything to "ricey or ghetto". Something sublte but at the same time will standout from the crowd.

Can you guys give me some suggestions or post pics with your cars and different rims. Chrome or otherwise? I probably wont do this right away but I want to start investingating for price, etc...

Thanks as always for your help and suggestions.

Well, if you don't want your rims to get ruined again don't get chrome rims. I personally do not like chrome rims, but I have seen a few Max's on here that look good with chrome rims. Check out my homepage for pics of my rims. I wouldn't go with anything under 18".

personally.. i dont like chrome rims... i would go with 17's for performance reasons. 18's and up are to heavy, you can get a good lightweight 17 that will improve acceleration and braking, and if you are dropped they look nice and clean.

i personally think that anyone who puts chrome rims on a Japanese car should be dragged out of his/her vehicle and shot on the spot...

I will be honest when I got my car someone had the factory rims chromed, and with my color I think it looks awesome. Most people on here dont like them but you are the one who is buying them. It depends on the look you are going for. You make the decision. Personally I like chrome rims depending on the color and with my color Grey Lustre I think its blends beautifully!!!

I like the look of chrome as long as they are a fairly simple design, especially on a black or dark color. And there are some 18" chrome rims that are relatively light (20-25 lbs.) Depends on the look you want. Some like chrome and some (most) don't. You decide ....

I knew that was gonna happen. And I know a lot of people here don't like chrome. I did not want a debate on chrome vs. whatever.

I don't know anything about brands of rims or websites to look for them or whatever. I guess I just want recomendations really. I persoally love the chrome, but I dont want them to get ruined during the winter. What are my other options? I guess I am a little uneducated here thats why I am asking.

I had crome rims on my 88 pickup that I bought new (16 1/2 yrs ago). They still looked like new before I totaled it about a month ago. I'm in the NW so I don't have the extreme winters. A simple design makes it easier to clean them and I think if you take care of them and they are a quality rim, they will last. Keep a coat of wax on them and keep them clean. Check out some of the web sites. tire rack, wheelmax, victoria tire edgeracing Good luck.
